E-mu 1212m was magic. Even back in the day the software tools were fairly painful to use, powerful as they were. Yeah, I mean PatchMix and Emulator X3.

But man, the card is rock solid. Low latency and crystal clear sound quality. Shame that the Creative-ization of E-mu is complete and no further audio chips are forthcoming from them. I'll never forgive Creative for what they did to Soundblaster Live... had a fantastic E-mu chip inside it and they completely watered it down with their software. Needed to install 3rd party drivers to make it go properly for sequencer use and it was still locked into 48K sample rate.

 

Exactly. They'd better finally fix their Bluetooth stack.
What just works out of the box on MacOS has been a nightmare to get stable and reliable on Windows for me.

 

Wait, are we really talking 'asio' - asio?
I mean am I gonna fire up any DAW from 2008 and have it output natively in low latency to the on board sound? Or is ist just wasapi 2.0?
Be cause if it's the latter let's see how sound folks are gonna adopt it.

Dolby asserts that AV1 “reuses” concepts from HEVC and that the codecs “are ‘based on the same hybrid block-based video-coding flow’ and employ nearly the same approach to dividing images into coding units… and blocks”.

Besides Dolby, InterDigital is also suing over AV1 and is accusing some Amazon Fire streaming devices of infringing on its patents by supporting the codec.

The results of the lawsuits could have lasting implications for AV1 adoption, which lags behind that of HEVC eight years after its release.

Dolby and Snap[chat] didn’t respond to requests for comment. An AOMedia spokesperson acknowledged receipt of our questions but didn’t provide responses ahead of publication.

//oh... that thread is ancient... I keep the comment, maybe somone wants to stop windows from updating. Not getting updates is the best thing ever. Just don't use edge. Use something else with ublock. Security risks minimized.

I recently discovered IoT LTSC Version of Windows and damn, that's the experience I always wanted - crazy fast and snappy with lower resource impact, more power for the DAW I guess. At the desk we all use an interface anyways I guess, but if we get native ASIO I see myself producing in bed with only a cheap ThinkPad and headphones, that would be great.

 

There's no way mickeysoft can come close to the operation smoothness of the great OEM audio hardware drivers. Especially in the case of RME and totalmix. Just another POS to have to clean out of the ms garbage closet.

 

They aren't trying to replace OEM hardware drivers. Not sure where it says that, perhaps I missed it, although I'm pretty sure it doesn't exist. There are numerous interfaces that do not come with their own drivers.

 

Let's wait and see...
We mustn't forget that Microsoft has direct access to the Windows code, so they COULD do more than anyone else—if they do it right. I think Microsoft is aware of how many people use Windows for
audio->Music-> gaming-Sound->, and-> film-sound design, and they'll do everything they can to keep those customers.

 

Right and those "interfaces" are generally low grade stuff that if one is looking for high quality audio should be left alone in favor of hardware that does have proper drivers. Good quality hardware is worthless without the proper drivers to back its operation and vice versa. There's no way a catch-all or A4A type solution does this.

 

Garbage-ware, Spyware, Telemetry, ad pushers, - yeah they are certainly doing everything they can to push away as many users as possible.
