I am thinking to do same thing....to upgrade from Monterey to Ventura, or Sonoma
Please if you do this upgrade, tell us what happened with the sister site stuff. Good luck and thanks!

Got this laptop with Monterey, on Sonoma realized it isn't getting any better and rolled back, Monterey is probably the perfect macOS for M1 laptops, battery life, overall performance, dunno, if you guys have no real need, there's nothing to gain OS vise.

there is still good reason to go past Monterey. developers are already requiring newer than macOS 12 for plugins, and also security updates which some people may consider important. Updating past Monterey may result in small decreases in performance. MacOS 13 and 14 have slightly higher memory usage. On the intel side, they don't improve anything really, but they are also not even noticeable differences other than what software versions you can use. I wouldn't use OCLP to get past it 12.

The point is that many things no longer work with Monterey, for example Kontakt 8..... and many libraries no longer work with Kontakt 7. Therefore, if anyone has done this upgrade, it would be great if they could please share what happens with the installed things downloaded from the sister site. Whether they still work or not. Thanks

Don't use Kontakt/Native Instruments&co, so really don't know, but was on Sonoma and had no issues with same software I use now, you will probably need Sonoma for Kontakt 8.8 anyways, so you pretty much have choice to jump on Sonoma, Sequoia or Tahoe, my vote goes to Sonoma, but never tried the other two.

Of course they do. The problem is not that they have been released on Audioz. The problem you may encounter is some software will not be compatible with whatever version of MacOS you are on. That will always be true.

Since I am on using an older MacOS on my DAW machine, I can tell you this little trick, ChatGPT is great for asking what specific version of anything will run on your MacOS version. Just ask "what is the last, or newest version of xyz program or plugin that will run on MacOS Monterey" and it will tell you. It's almost never wrong, if you pay attention to what you are reading. It will say " x.x version officially suported, but there are users who have reported you can actually use x.x version". And it is almost always right. You still need to figure out what release you need to get, but the guidelines are what you really need.

Thank you very much for your answer. And...yes, I think ChatGPT is good for this kind of technical stuff in general. Regards

For M1 and music softwares, you should be safe all the way up to Seqouia, which still gets seccurity updates currently.

I recommend making a clone via SuperDuper or Carbon Copy cloner first....or have a TimeMaschine backup ready. When I upgraded/tested MacOS Tahoe, it was a terrible experience, but I quickly reverted back via SuperDuper by booting from the clone and then cloning back.

Class-compliant devices are usually fine. But you can add anything that depends on vendor software lagging behind macOS updates to any list.

If your LS stopped working due to a needed update, unless they do some serious changes, you could install LuLu and configure it in 15 minutes. When your audio interface doesn't work, it's time to downgrade. In the context of plugins, I would not let ex. a reverb plugin hold my update hostage.
