Hi all, look, im not anti piracy, I use plenty of cracks, i also buy a ton of stuff, when a creator sends out a blast like the following, maybe its time to stop. From Alex B....

    "An honest word

I have decided to suspend the release of new N·Ai libraries.
Sales have dropped to the point where they no longer cover basic running costs – and frankly, I'm tired of seeing my work, along with that of friends and colleagues like TimP and Cupwise, shared without respect just days after release.

If things change – if the respect for independent creators returns – I still have new unedited libraries ready.

Until then, I’ve put together a small spring update for those who still believe in this work. It’s my way of saying thank you for staying."

There has certainly been an abundance of them showing up lately, but I have no idea about who was buying them before and not now. But how many of those paying customers have been peeled away from Nebula because of AnalogX Genesis?

If the nebula stuff wasn't posted to the scene, I would never bother with 99.99% of it. Same goes for Analog X. A LOT of it is redundant and just not worth grabbing even though it's free. whatever... not going to sweat it one way or the other...

I also think these guys need a break. We often celebrate when greedy developers are conquered, but we should be careful not to suffocate the the little guys. Imagine all the equipment costs (buy/ren) to get these impulse libraries out. As much as I like more, I want people to eat. And specifically about the timeline of release...we all need to yearn a little more. These "Amazon Prime" style deliveries are truly spoiling us and we can definitely wait more.

His licensing system does not fit to what he is providing.

    Donationware is the answer.

Well, warez groups always share the same motto on their releases. "If you like it, buy it. Support developers".
Haven't used Nebula. But compared with other competitors the price is cheaper. Not cheap enough for anyone to invest in it tho.
His work deserving support and people not owning the resources to purchase a product worth buying are two realities that co-exist.
Hopefully he finds a better way to survive in the modern era of VST Plugin Marketing.

Hard to change the way the Scene works. Teams don't run on a schedule, but they crack and release ASAP once they get supplied.

He has every right to be frustrated, but I think it's unlikely that he's losing already paying customers. If that's the case, he's only punishing those that do buy his libraries and there will be no end to his break.

And to play devil's advocate, it also gives a little scarcity marketing "buy my stuff, or I'll keep the new shiny stuff to myself"

That's the end of a hobby that provided a lot of pleasure to those willing to pay a small fee to these guys who were operating from their garden shed. The beast has eaten itself!

Yes, he's going to survive watching TV and not wasting his time making any more libraries. Great result!

For all we know, Giancarlo is behind this recent flood of libraries to finish off the third party devs capable of producing libraries that make Acquas sound like toys.

Crazy how they purposely handicapped Nebula (N4 was supposed to load
multiple libraries in one instance) then essentially abandoned the platform in favor of Acquas that they pop out every other week.

So my main issue here is that these libraries don't exactly have trial periods. Some offer demo programs, other audio demos, but you can't really fully try them yourself, unless you get them from somewhere else. Then you either like it and keep it (sucks for the devs), like it and buy it (everybody wins), or don't like it so you don't buy it (also sucks for the devs). Either way you know what you're getting beforehand,

The legit alternative relies a little too much on hype and wishfull thinking, which may end up screwing you as a paying costumer.

I doubt AnalogX has taken much business away. From what i see regarding AnalogX Vs Nebula, is most people appreciating AnalogX, but its not replacing Nebula. I would say its just the market thats affecting his sales. World economy, plugin saturation etc. While his libraries are affordable, people just aren't spending like they were a few years ago.

    I get that, fair enough.

    haha, yah, true.

Thats my philosophy as well. Screw the corporate overlords who screw over the consumer, and are owned by some tech bro firm. Support the little guy who creates boutique tools that sound great. Wether or not the releases are affecting his sales, which I don't believe to be true, its still a major blow to ones enthusiasm and morale to see all of your work distributed. I agree with you, but I get it, the scene will scene.

Donationware rarely works, but lowering the price does. He has many libraries up there, and if they were $10-20 instead of $40, he would sell a lot more.

Thats the motto, but I know for a fact not many people follow it. Theres entitlement syndrome, or thinking the rules don't apply to you. Theres also the fact that people legit can't afford it, and would not buy it either way.

I had the same thoughts. Its a tough market as it is. Its not like people are regularly buying nebula libraries. He releases a new one, people buy them, but nobody is going through the back catalog unless its a big sale or something. He could be blaming these releases on his lack of sales, where if he were to release updates, or new libraries, he would actually get the sales back. I know i would buy them.

Lmao. Would not be surprised. Actually likely.

And the Oscar goes to :

"The ones who download anything they see, but have zero use of it since they have no intention to ever use those tools."

This is a conundrum since they don't need it or use it what loss was there? What a virtual loss?

I use mainly open source or freeware applications, many of the higher end software already have Indie or cut down resolution limits for video and graphics. Been on Reaper for years and in fact most of the stock plugins are fine for my basic needs of Audio.

Most of the youtube content is generated from OBS and that is free!!.

Tell him to start an OnlyFans.

If sales are not even covering basic running costs, that means not even the professional music industry is buying his products. I wonder why…

I may have a pessimistic attitude. I've never used an Acustica Audio product in my life, as I don't support bloatware and customer abuse.
