I agree with you, many people simply want to see their own face online. It's self-promotion, and the quality of the posts isn't that important. Sometimes they're even false claims, also known as lies.

There's also a group of narcissists who regularly annoy us. Narcissistic Personality Disorder: Colloquially, a "narcissist" is understood to be a person who displays pronounced egoism, arrogance, and selfishness and behaves inconsiderately towards others.

 

It is interesting when someone in a mass market who is not at the top of the food chain makes a claim like this. I am not saying it does not happen, just that in this person's case, most likely not. As an example, if the owner of Oeksound said this I might consider it more reasonable for a smaller developer. I personally have found someone who creates a really great product more often lets the product speak for itself and does not waste time being worried about if they may be targeted. If people love the way something works, they'll buy it, no matter where it comes from. There are labels for this type of video and many people have used most of them already.

 

Either he's mentally ill or really good at marketing. Little difference between the two in 2026 in any case

He has a second youtube channel (where I guess he claims to understand economics?). He says the channel is to talk about making money, to talk about how he makes money in the stock market . Says he's gonna talk about trading options, real estate, forex, etc.

I'm sure he has a very basic understanding of how these things work, but hey, preach the gospel brother!

I guarantee you there's an EQ course out there as good as his for free or similarly priced. I don't doubt his is too bad tbh.

I don't hate the guy. I don't know him. I just see how insanely and arrogantly he has presented himself in the past.

I have no true ill will towards him, but he puts himself out out as a public figure, really likes attention, and isn't immune to criticism.

He amassed 50k+ subs in two years through what appears to be organic engagement, mostly by playing on emotions and farming engagement via clickbait titles and ambiguous statements. Many people struggle to see past the act, so they take it personally. As a result, they either end up hating him in ten-page forum threads or becoming avid followers.

That is how the strategy works, and you fell for it. I, for one, am not interested in his online persona, I am more interested in the technical information he shares. While I can attest that there are multiple excellent EQ courses available, such as the free 9-hour course from Mastering.com or the paid one from Mixing with Mike, the AP Mastering course explores more niche technical specs. Among other things, it covers how EQs are designed and how different implementations behave (ringing, intermodulation distortion, oversampling filters, cramping, etc). That is what caught my interest in the first place.

 

It seems that you fell for his clickbait and bought into his (in my opinion) par technical knowledge by literally paying him money.

I'd highly recommend you check out Dan Worrall and the technical demos he has done for Fab Filter equalizers, as well as all of the EQ videos on his YouTube channel. They're extremely detailed and technical. Best of all you don't have to give a grifter money.

He's ok. Nothing special. Kind of annoying. Some good, some bad.

And no, the plugin industry never coordinated an attack against AP mastering. And no, he's not a genius because he fooled me by "pretending" to act like a paranoid egomaniac and sell me his shitty compressor that "took down the plugin industry".

Let me know how his stock trading course is though, I'm very curious.

 

I bought the course because the subject matter is interesting and he's clearly a knowledgeable person, not because I love or hate the guy... so at least I'm wasting my time learning something here. And it's not unusual for me to do this; I often find technical subjects difficult to grasp, and seeing how others approach them helps me understand the material better.

Furthermore, I have watched all of Dan Worrall’s videos, including his ongoing basic ear training course (which is paid). None of those videos are structured linearly, nor do they claim to follow a specific methodology, so I don't see how the comparison applies here.

I'm also not aware of any stock trading course, and since I have no interest in that area, I will have to leave you hanging on that one, hehe

I've no idea who this guy is (nor do I care), but I thoroughly enjoyed reading your take on his narcissism - quite a refreshing respite from reading about the other narcissist that's polluting every news feed on the planet.

 

You could've just bought yourself a copy of Modern Recording Techniques (whatever version its up to now) and learned all that and still had a reference sitting next to you to learn all sorts of other proper things about recording and studio work in general. You know, like how everyone learned it before YouTube was invented and all of a sudden everyone was an engineer (with no credits or history to their name)..

 

And what makes you think I don't already have a copy? And how's that related to the topic I was commenting on? That book addresses only the basics of EQ. And you probably missed the part where I said:

That should be reason enough to understand why someone would resort to different media to research a topic further. Furthermore, your assumption that I watched his course because I lack knowledge of the subject or other resources is baseless, and I have already addressed this in a previous comment.
