I have never had success with Realtek's ASIO driver in the past.
I notice that I have it available on this rig, too, but i think it would be even less likely to work (pure guessing).
But this USB Realtek (ALC4080) is sketchy enough without complicating things.
It uses the USB bus instead of the PCi bus, and some people have had noise problems.
I don't seem to have noise problems, but it has NOT worked well with Asio4all.
After my failures to get Realtek ASIO working in the past it just seems unlikely, but who knows?

I still have Asio4all installed + AsioLinkPro, and for many years that has been my combo for use in extracting surround movie stuff, LAN use, etc.
I will also try this new Asio4all version, but i have a feeling it is just my USB driver/interface that sucks

CPU performance on a AMD Ryzen9 7900 is 0.5-1.0% lower on ASIO4All maybe because of the slower Output Latency.

i like the flexible Buffer settings, 384 is a good deal between 256 and 512 where it is still possible to live input on heavy projects.
or 96 Buffer is good between 64 and 128 Buffers for Drums. At least for me.

i am keeping this driver for now, seems better than my years old Behringer Driver.

 

Yes, you're right @Neurolepticer, 2014 is obviously much too old.
If your motherboard has a Realtek chip soldered on, then you should also use the Realtek drivers.

And now I checked some [blocks 256]:
(all just reported latencies, but anyway)
Studio One: Asio4all (11.5ms / 11.5ms)
FlexAsio (22ms / 27 ms)

Reaper: Asio4all (10ms / 5.3ms)
FlexAsio (22ms / 27ms)

After using Asio4all, FlexAsio is crashing Studio One and can't be selected without crashing.
I was using FlexAsio before with no problem.
Switching between Windows Audio & my hardware drivers, enabling disabling stuff..nothing seemed prevent FlexAsio crashing Studio One ... until trying the Realtek.
Then I could enable FlexAsio again
Similar thing seems to happen in Reaper, although after one crash it opens with FlexAsio selected.
So, perhaps FlexAsio is touchy..or Asio4all is a bully...or...
...perhaps Windows SUCKS!

But as I also noticed there is Realtek ASIO available on my system, it seems unable to switch from 1024 buffers, even via it's control panel - none of its settings seem to change that...so it's very high reported latency.

These are timestamped late 2025 (ignore the date on WUpdate) and include RTHDASIO64.dll, RTHDASIO.dll, but NOT RTASIOCP64.dll, RTASIOCP.dll (maybe try with the dlls from the older driver).


FlexASIO => I think PortAudio (the library used for ASIO) never implemented support for Windows 10/11's IAudioClient3, so there's a couple more ms left on the table.

This thread is a treasure chest! I knew most realtek chipsets were able to output Dolby stuff and I had ancient patched drivers but nothing modern.

 

If you install the driver with an app such as Dolby Atmos or DTS:X, you must first disable automatic updates in the Microsoft Store. Otherwise, the license will become invalid again the next time the app is updated, and you will revert to a trial version instead of a full version.

I recommend Dolby Audio Premium. ^^
