Twice I couldn't restore my system after a frozen screen and a polyphonic virus that ate files. One time it was Acronis True Image or something like that, which ended up in the trash. It crashed mid-recovery process and just froze. I then spent three weeks installing a new system and plugins and configuring everything again. I used to use Norton Ghost, which always worked.

Now I have Ashampoo Backup Plus, the paid version.
System restore points are useful, but in a real emergency, you need software that can restore the system 100%.

Been using Acronis Backup & TrueImage for years - never had an issue. Always use the warezed Acronis/Macrium Bootable WinPE solutions and always running verifications of the system images after creation and before placing them on offline storage with checksums... If there's a hiccup or a bad portion of storage media you want to know about it BEFORE you reach for the files to re-image a corrupted system.

There are Linux based versions of most of these floating around out there that will cause problems when running them on windows systems. Many of these aren't marked as linux or winpe until one boots to them. Then it's rather obvious.

Other backup image systems that boast about running backups while the OS is "hot" are ones I avoid like the plague.
