    Hi folks,

    still any iPad users around?
If you have a Yamaha synth/workstation or higher-end mixing desk, check the app store for free iOS apps.

Currently there's even a free sequencing app from Yamaha: Mobile Music Sequencer.

After taking some time getting into it (the concept is a bit unusual but not bad), I must say I really enjoy using it. Mainly because it has kind of a "session view" grid of midi patterns known from Ableton. You can record patterns, place them on the grid and start jamming.

What's great about it too is that you can integrate other synths running in the background (iPad 4 or Air heavily recommended), so purchasing add-on sound packs is somewhat obsolete if you have great synths/samplers already and an iDevice that's powerful enough.

There's also a piano roll editor to edit patterns:

There is much, much more to it but just read the iTunes app description to learn more.

Combined with some free synths like Alchemy Mobile, TF7, Novation Launchkey etc. you have quite a powerful tool set at hand, for free.
BTW - AFAIK, Mixtikl 6 free version can load Sound Fonts and play samples over Core Midi, in case you like to use some.

    Jam on :grooves:

Well, if you can spend around $100, you can still breathe new life into an old iPad 1 (the 3G model can also be used for GPS navigation!), get BeatMaker 2 and maybe thor, iMini or Sunrizer, you can still make some great music under iOS 5.1.1. If you prefer Ableton-alike, pattern-oriented workflow, "Electrify" would be an option.
I'd recommend to jailbreak it because then you can access your files over Wi-Fi (SSH) more easily. You could even automatically upload new samples or back up songs to and from the iPad just by the help of little Linux/MacOSX scripts or Windows batch files, no iTunes or mouse clicking required.
Beatmaker 2 is a rock-solid app and the only one that has a full-fledged sampler (supporting velocity layers and then BM2 has proper Master/Slave MIDI SYNC!) built-in. Next would be Xewton Music Studio - faster to learn but less features. Can't really recommend Cubasis because it has no sampler combined with horrible preset sounds and no slave MIDI sync mode ... otherwise a very nice app but way too expensive.

It's for the 40th anniversary of Yamaha synths.

Here's the complete Music Production Guide issue on this topic.
The Mobile Music Sequencer is free until September 30. The other apps stay free.

Thank you, it`s really tempting or lets say the touch screen is [IMG].
And the Wi-Fi, too. As an additional part of a (live)setup it can bring more dynamic and fun, as far as I`ve seen/heard.
My next investment will be a PC and if a would go for something new in software, it`s probably Linux based. Also, I´ve made my choices and do my best to dig deeper, not to try to much stuff, which becomes inevitably distractive, at least for an "amateur" like me.
However, the market for iOS apps seems to flourish and there is "still iPad users around"...
I think a own sub-section for Pad-Tweaks & Hacks could be interesting for a lot of folks here.

(Sorry Cat, I know you`re busy as *****, just couldn`t resist to mention it :bleh:)
