Hi! I'm new in the forum and in the Audioz community. I found it because I was running out of options to safely download some audio software (Ableton, some plugins and other software), and this community was mentioned several times by redditers as a good and safe place to find audio related stuff. I will therefore in general trust what is uploaded on audioz, but I first want to make sure that there is a consensus that everything uploaded there is safe, or at least that for other people that have downloaded the same files everything is working fine and clean : )
I recently downloaded from audioz a newer version of Transcribe! (an older version of which I got in the past from other sources), v9.50.1. Before installing and cracking it I run the keygen through VirusTotal, and got quite a high score, 34/72: https://www.virustotal.com/gui/file/94e499de4fdc5b75eaeb66e713f2f8734e122aaab258323135488205a7f6076c
I've installed some cracks before that had up to 10 and it was always fine, but I'm a bit scare of installing this one. Is this normal and safe? Otherwise, is there another version of Transcribe! that is known to work fine and safely?
I also want to download Ableton live 12 from the same website, but I'm scare of running into the same problem.
Sorry if this topic has been repeated and is annoying, but I thought I'd first ask to get some directions and I guess to better be safe than sorry.

    Thanks in advance!

Almost all the reputable software developers have free plugins just checkout the free sections on their homepages. If you have trust issues then nothing to worry about that way when you get your plugins direct from the source.

better safe than sorry is good, but using the search function is the one you wanted.

most keygens will get flagged as malware, spyware, PUPs (potentially unwanted programs), and so on.

They are false positive results in many cases. Windows defender will do some fun stuff too. Again, hit the search button.

And regardless where you get your software (and the only "unofficial" place i trust is Audioz), back up your computer, with the idea that personal work may be irreplaceable & beyond that anything you SPEND YOUR VALUABLE TIME DOING:
Any folders you create to save anything
Your user documents folder (because that is often the default location programs choose for you to save)
Any place where you save presets
Your OS drive (as it can take a while to do a fresh install and get back to a good working state).
Rescuezilla is a well-known free backup program.

I don't preach backups because I use risky software...
I trust everything at Audioz as much as I trust any software.
But hardware is bound to fail and even software may fail and cause a problem.
So nice to be able to restore an OS disk and have things exactly as they were.
(Or at least close, depending how often you back up the OS drive)

The sister site is safe; there are no viruses or Trojans there. Keygens are always detected as malware, but these are always false positives. If you download anything from the sister site, you must disable your antivirus software, such as Windows Defender, beforehand; otherwise, it will block the keygen, and you won't be able to activate the software.

And even if a bit off topic I suggest other softwares to help transcribing, in order of (my) preference:
Decoda, Song Master, Riffstation, Amazing Slow Downer.

I can say that because I tested all, Transcribe! included and I have a certain knowledge in transcribing.

Firstly, a warm welcome to the site.

Looking back to my very first download here, i can remember doing so with doubts. However, the more i got to learn of the professionalism the way the site was being run, that I need not have worried.
I feel it is the same as if i was receiving files from my best friend. And whilst I know heaven and earth is being moved to assure us of total security, it is possible something could get through.

To recap. Everything is safe, but still allow for human error

That is questionable advice. I remember a Serato Sample Release by V.R. a few years ago being tainted and taken down. What the cause of it was and where and when something malicious had been injected, I don't know. The sister site is not fail safe even though one can be pretty sure, there are, for the moment, no malicious actors who commit malicious acts on purpose. On the other hand, they obviously cannot make sure that every release that makes it to the sister site is safe. That would be an impossible undertaking in regards to the time that would take. And even then, mistakes happen...

If in doubt, one should always follow @clone 's advice to be better safe than sorry!

Moreover, there are quite some P2P releases on sister site. I would always be more cautious when dealing with these releases in comparison to the releases of reputable scene groups or people like V.R., R2R, Moria, Mocha, e.g. Another advantage of these releases is, they are often tested and looked at by many people. That is not the case for an obscure P2P release of a program for transcription that not many people download and comment on. I'm not hating on these releases, I'm simply trying to paint a picture.

The business model of the uploaders on the sister site is based on Trojans and virus-free software.
The sister site's good reputation is also based on quality and virus-free content.

What they're doing here is unnecessarily spreading panic and questioning everything. Furthermore, you always have the option to complain on the sister site. In case of doubt, the download in question will be reviewed, and if there are any discrepancies, it will be deleted.

If you want absolute security, buy your software legally and unplug your computer.
Dangers lurk everywhere once you're online; the only truly secure thing is the insecure.

Most viruses and Trojans come from dubious download sources and email attachments, not from the sister site. My advice: make a complete backup of your C: drive to a second hard drive. This way, in case of ransomware, Trojans, etc., you can completely restore your hard drive using an emergency disk.

I totally agree with you here. It was merely important for me to note, that downloading from sister site doesn't necessarily equal safe for the various reasons I stated.

Thank you for all your answers! I'll keep everything of that in mind.
I regularly keep a copy of important stuff, and I recently did a clean windows install, so got everything backed up : )
