The Grammy for Album of the Year goes to a completely Spanish-language production for the first time. The Dalai Lama was also honored.

US rapper Bad Bunny made history at the Grammy Awards: His album "DeBÍ TiRAR MáS FOToS" won the award for Album of the Year in Los Angeles, marking the first time the prize has gone to a purely Spanish-language production. The title translates to "I Should Have Taken More Photos." On the album, Bad Bunny blends modern beats with traditional musical styles from his native Puerto Rico. The 31-year-old's lyrics address themes such as cultural identity and colonialism. It is his sixth solo studio album, which reached number one on the charts in the US and several other countries.

    Five Grammys for Kendrick Lamar

Hip-hop star Kendrick Lamar won the award for Record of the Year. He took home a total of five awards, the most Grammys of the evening. Billy Eilish's "Wildflower" was chosen as Best Song. The Dalai Lama won his first Grammy for an audiobook. Even before the official ceremony began, the world's most important music prize in the Best Dance-Pop Recording category went to Lady Gaga for her electropop hit "Abracadabra."

British singer Olivia Dean was honored as Best New Artist. A rare honor was also bestowed upon US filmmaker Steven Spielberg: He won a Grammy for his work on a documentary, thus achieving "EGOT" status, named after the initial letters of the most prestigious show business awards: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar, and Tony. Spielberg has now won all of them at least once.

Irish singer Sinéad O'Connor deliberately declined the Grammy Award for "Best Alternative Music Album" in 1991. She stayed away from the awards ceremony, explaining her decision by saying that the Grammys were too commercial and more interested in sales than artistic quality.

O'Connor also criticized the music industry in general and refused to be celebrated as part of a system that, in her view, undermined art and authenticity. Her protest is still considered one of the most consistent and courageous acts against the mainstream in music history.

I've been boycotting the Grammys for the last five years as they haven't celebrated my 50 years as a songwriter. They're all a bunch of bums.

    Obligatory :

And this episode aired in 1993. It's been a long time since the Grammy Awards lost their prestige. It's just a pay-to-play ceremony that serves more as a promotion event than anything else, nothing more.

i dont think any other professional recording artist submits a project for a grammy nomination, needing approval of its merit. from what ive learned its mostly just to beat out other people and win publicly, the people in this industry are very competitive

Michael Jackson, the "King of Pop," also left his mark on the Grammy record books. In 1984, he broke the record for the most nominations and awards in a single year. He received an impressive 12 nominations and took home 8 Grammys.

Taylor Swift, too, has already achieved considerable success in her still-young career. With 14 Grammy Awards to her name, she is one of the most outstanding artists of our time and will undoubtedly celebrate many more successes in the music world.

Paul McCartney? I wonder what they will use to prop him up with.

These people and their little yearly show? They are the living embodiments of why we should be using AI, not the other way around.

I remember it definitely, but I will watch it again to correlate the dead parrot sketch with McCartney.

But I was thinking by 2030, it's either going to be a lot of cocaine or one of those hand trucks you can angle up so they also work like a dolly.

This will work if he is still cranking out "fresh work", "just resting" or stapled to the acoustic guitar and a perch.

Not all of it no (Chick Corea and Christian McBride won a Grammy together, and Christian alone with his big band for instance - also: Gonzalo Rubalcaba's tribute to Nat King Cole, Nate Smith, Laufey's second consecutive Grammy, Samara Joy too, Buena Vista Social Club again, and that Billie Eilish/Finneas best song wasn't undeserved).

And I've not even mentioned the Blues, Bluegrass, Americana, American Roots, Regional Roots, Folk, Gospel, Latin, World, and all the variations of Score/Visual Media, Country or, lest we forget: Classical awards (Gustavo Dudamel walked away with three).

So not all of it, no, therefore not total shite as you say. Just partially, or majority shite - depending on your musical education.

To be fair, for most of the last 2+ decades, I was of a similar mindset as yours. Something's been stirring up though... stay tuned.

A great surprise and joy for me:

The Dalai Lama (90) received the award for the "profound wisdom" and "gentle delivery" of his audiobook recording.

His soothing narrative voice has earned the Dalai Lama (90) his first Grammy. In the category "Best Audiobook, Narrative, and Storytelling Recording," the former political leader of Tibet won with his audiobook "Meditations: The Reflections of His Holiness the Dalai Lama."

I just don't see the point in any of it. If you're a carpenter you might make the best chairs. People like to sit on them. No big deal, you're a craftsman and you just get on with your craft. We just don't need celebrity or awards ceremonies - they stand for nothing.

You are absolutely right, but the masses are being forcibly entertained and distracted from what is truly important in life; the whole thing is a sophisticated method to manipulate their minds. Those at the top and you at the bottom. They always lure them with prizes, recognition, and press coverage so that those at the bottom continue to work hard, writing and performing songs to provide money for those at the top.
