I use DT 900 pro X and calibrated the new Beyerdynamic Headphone Lab plugin to match my headphones.

However, after placing the headphone plugin at end of the master chain, it undid all the work my saturator/limter was doing on my master channel. The track went from 0db to +5db instantly. Couldn't find anywhere to turn down the input/output volume on the beyerdynamic plugin either. Are we supposed to place the this beyerdynamic plugin on the end of the master chain? That seems like the logical place, right? Of course, I could put the plugin before the limiter/saturator on the master channel, but then it wouldn't be monitoring the complete signal.

Anybody got any tips, other than simply not using this plugin?

Yeah, I also think it needs an output gain knob, it has a safe gain switch but it then become too quiet (on my headphones).

In any case you can just add an utility or gain plugin before Headphone Lab on your chain and adjust to your desired level. And yes, this should be the last plugin in your master chain, also, don't forget to remove/bypass it before exporting your track.

After a little week of testing, it did work well with DT 900 Pro X. As long I didn't touch the loudspeaker emulation because that feature simply didn't "translate" to any environment that I knew of. In my case anyway.

I'm still gonna stick to Realphones, but as a free correction plugin, it's a whole lot better than *TrashID* nevertheless. :bleh:

Interesting. Free is a good word, that Slate BS is nothing but cheap headphones connected to a scam...

Paid is ok if it works for you. I've tried everything and APL Virtuoso works best for me, so I bought it to support future development.

What is the registration on the plugin like? Which protection does it use? I ask because I'm in the market for such a thing.

    I tested it with my DT770 80ohm.
    It's nice.
    I liked the frequency correction.
    Subtle and useful.
The room/binaural/head sim is a mixed bag. The room is crap. So IMHO it's best to put the dial on the most left position.
The speaker angle, I don't know yet. 30 degree sounds extremely phasey. I liked the 80 degree best, but I guess for me 'off' is the preferred setting.
Sometimes I don't know what companies want to emulate.
An extremely bad room with reflective surfaces so extreme everything is phasey? Well ok then.. but I wouldn't mix in that room.

    100% agree @Zenarcist
Freebie alts are nice though....Virtuoso looks nice actually might test it ! It looks like spat + hear from flux in one app.
Spat is awesome, I have the last version before they did spat revolution which is a robbery (1500$ for the ultimate version, 400 for the regular one, when the old spat was like 200),never upgraded, sometimes devs that do unique stuffs can really push it in term of price tag when they do an upgrade. I always support talented devs, but I felt like that move was dishonest.

APL is a spin-off company from a UK university multidisciplinary psychoacoustics team that has spent many years researching binaural audio.

Aha that's funny, Flux is kind of the same...It's actually an infant of ircam (https://www.ircam.fr/ )which is a public funded entity also multidisciplinary specialized in psycoaccustic....

So basically you are adding an EQ to your expansive headphones to make it sounds flat, a flatness that doesn't really exist in nature.

    Good job audiosexers.

EQ is optional, but for mixing you would probably want to engage it to mimic the flat response of expensive room treatment. The only way to decide if it's for you is to do some A/B testing. Let your ears and brain make the decision, not words on a page.

Headphones don't exist in nature so what's your point?

Headphones with a flat frequency response don't exist either. The EQ is acting as a form room treatment would be my analogy. Also, no sound coming through headphones can be compared 1-to-1 with speakers in a well treated room, but using EQ and room emulation software is the closest we can get. You can learn untreated headphones, but you're screwed if you use a different brand or model. At the end of the day everybody should just do what they want to do, but I'm not going back to unprocessed sound anytime soon, although I still use it for comparison purposes as a lot of people listen to music on headphones :)

Preferably it is put in an insert of the monitoring. Cubendo has a separate monitoring mixer with inserts. I did put it there. When I'm forced to work in ProTools I created my own 'listen-group' as a monitoring way. So I would put it there if I'd use it in Pro Tools.

I use my headphones as my "zoom tool" for detail extraction. I want them as accurate to whatever is actually in the DAW. I probably use them for less than 10% of the entire time.
