though id disagree about games...the corporate industry is a disaster zone but other than that as a medium its thriving with great games coming out all the time. Arc raiders is an amazing game and social experiment, that actually uses online play to create a fascinating experience.

My great experience today was going shopping in the snow and ice and getting home safe and sound.

We have a perfect entertainment industry that keeps you busy and distracts you from the truly important things in life.
And with you as willing consumers, there's good money to be made.

Movies! Just look at the Best Picture nominees at the Oscars in the 1970s. 95% of those movies would not get made today.

I think the decline in mainstream movies and music is definitely linked.

So true. The pro music scene in clubs and venues in the 70's - 90's was supportive of a pro musician being able to eek out a meager living by playing alone. Gigging 5-6 nights a week with different ensembles and bands at various clubs/venues in a metro area was the norm for a lot of us. Now that is all gone.

Incidentally, the ancient Romans had already used the techno rhythm – the base kick drum – for rowing in their slave ships.

Its been rain most days here in UK for weeks, once the sun comes back a game cannot compete with daily sunshine and nature. The game is very sunny and mediterranean sometimes which is nice in winter. I hate winter.

If music has declined - smoking laws, DWI enforcement killed the bar scene where most bands played covers as a form of learning and as a rite of passage into writing their own stuff. I played the bar scene all through college in the 1970s and it was VERY competitive. You didn't even consider doing your own stuff unless you were one of the top dogs. Sad? perhaps.

I was just wondering how many songs released in the last five years might be considered to be classic songs? I’m struggling. ChatGPT could only think of “As It Was” by Harry Styles and “Blinding Lights”. I’d add “Birds of a Feather”, “Fate of Ophelia”. But If you’d asked that question in 1970, the list would have been as long as your arm.

I'm definitely not a stereo hater, quite the opposite, but if you appreciate the sound being present (as if the band is in your living room) mono is definitely preferable - also because you are not so dependent on your own physical location in relation to the sound source. Furthermore, I never listen to music on headphones (I really hate that).
NB: There are many good sources for understanding the benefits of mono online.

I also have a lot of jazz music from the eighties up until today, it's cool, but especially in the eighties there was a general tendency to use compressors to such an extent that in many cases it was/is unbearable to listen to - the same goes for the use of reverb.

I've never heard of The Josh Meader Trio before, but just listened to the album Tides of Time - still listening and it sounds great. I guess Josh has listen a lot to John Scofield?!?

I am fortunately with two ears, which is a blessing. I check them often for possible hearing loss and so far I hear like a young man - hope it stays that way.

New release by a fantastic musician I can recommend is: Pernille Bévort with the album: "A Cup of Joe".

All I know is that I love 80s music. I like the way it sounds. The production. The writing. The singing. The synths. The drums machines. The (often) combination of electronic and band/musician. The experimental nature of much of it, early on. Even without the synths and stuff, like thrash metal, for example. Better or not, I prefer that decade of music to all others.

While I was alive in the 80s, I was a tiny baby. My parents listened to 60s-70s rock. By the time I had access and started paying attention to music, and the general world in any significant way, it was the 90s.

I honestly had no idea that all my favorite music was 80s music until 2K+. I just didn't think of it that way. I just listened to what like. Whatever the genre, It happened to be 80s music. Even the 90s music I love came from bands/musicians that started in the 80s. Once I noticed that I started purposely digging into the decade. Music expanded into TV/Movies, many of which became my favorite.

What can I say, I just love 80s media. Even newer music I prefer today has that 80s influence. Gunship, The Midnight. Dead When I Found Her, for example.

That said, the games were pretty shit, and I prefer streaming my TV shows and movies.

    A suggestion:

1: Try going back to the year you were born and listen to the music/genres from that time.

2: Compare the music/genres with the music you like best today.

3: Then go back in time before you were born and find the music/genre (if possible) and compare with an open mind.

Like I said... just a suggestion...

Back then, there was a real sense of optimism in the music world. People were breaking free from the bourgeois constraints of society with new, different music. They danced in clubs and at festivals, dressed differently, and identified with the corresponding music movement. The sleek digital world hadn't been invented yet. Back then, no one could imagine people constantly staring at a screen!
