    Hi!

Why do I always find the >10kHz range too dynamic?

If I use a de-esser around 8kHz, it still doesn't seem to "cover" the range above 10kHz.

I often get crazy sibilance, especially on vocals. The only way is to always use a limiter only above 10kHz, but it's incredible that this happens all the time, only to me, and I don't often hear about these peaks above 10kHz. Is it possible that you only get very clean recordings? I

n 99% of cases, I get these dynamic peaks above 10kHz, and putting a de-esser (maybe even in mastering) above 5/8kHz, as is conventional, doesn't sharpen them.

Do you ever experience this? Does it happen to you too?

Probably because you either listen too closely or because your monitoring is bad.

Stop listening to frequencies, start listening to volume and then balance the volume.
Adjusting frequency balance of an instrument is tuning, not fundamental. Especially not above ~6kHz.

I kept running into this issue last year after I overhauled my entire chain. It took quite some time to understand that I was having some issues with my approach. First thing was that I was doing too much saturation, so I started limiting myself to only a single saturation source per track and bus, with few exceptions. The second thing was that I was approaching my EQ wrong. I wanted presence and clarity, and you can't have both things. In short, if I need clarity, I will just cut a shelf at around 300hz instead of boost the high end. Try approaching mixing in a subtractive manner instead, and only focus on boosting a couple db if that's not enough. After doing that, I stopped having problems with my high end.

One thing that also happened is that a lot of vocals I mixed were done on quite treble happy microphones, in cases like that I found that TDR Arbiter was a good friend in making sure those super hard pokes stayed controlled. Some high frequency compression (like in Gem Fuse) and limiting (like TDR Limiter 6) also helps.

In short, I found that trying to patch those issues didn't work out better than just rethinking my approach to mixing. Once that was figured out, it got better to a point I don't even think about harshness anymore.

when recroding singers? maybe some device in the chain causes massive distortion for some reason?

Does this fx chain contain the RMS compressor you are asking about in prior post?

It could be just a contrast thing, you know, lack of mids and all.
