No, he means the American one (but he's not the only one who knows him, and he's not on here - in fact, he can't, IYKYK).

At the very least, Gold or Platinum plaques - plural, not just the one - on the wall, or at least a Grammy.

That said, there are producers without either, who produce niche music, or films, or their own video game music, that could be considered "top" in their niche - just not by your grandma, baker, or taxi driver.

Your taxi driver knowing who you are, or the artists you produced, is a good measure of celebrity and "top" producing.

Since I only know three DJs (as it were, the most famous ones of their respective era), neither of whom use cracked software, I can neither confirm or deny what any other famous ones use, or don't use.

Full disclosure: not a fan of DJs in general. Imagine buying frozen meals and a microwave oven, and calling yourself a chef. Not cool.

Does having Gold, Platinum, Double-Platinum, and a few #1 hits make you a top producer?
If that’s the benchmark, then I guess I’m just one of many who are still hanging around the forum, keeping it real.

 

I dont Have to pirate software. I choose to. Its a way of sticking it to the man. And its way of helping people discover new ways to do their art. And ultimately these types of communities actually increase the sales for software developers because people get to use something they may have never even considered before and may end up buying it. and if they dont well they weren't going to in the first place so little is actually lost for the developers.
also I come here for the discussions and also because you NEVER know who may show you a new way of looking at something. I think a lot of professionals understand this too. So they still go to dive bars, open mic nights ,off the beaten path forums to keep that search for something different and inspiring alive.
