Im also using Realphones 2 with my HD 650 and its has worked the best for me so far. However, I've only tried Sonarworks and Morphit besides that and for me Realphones are far ahead and indeed especially for club music where you want it translate well to speakers.

My mistake, You are correct. It's definitely room correction software.

This is my humble amateurish opinion:

    • Room/Space correction software: I only use IR from different rooms to check the mix in various situations. Why? Because when mixing on headphones, you are not fooled by room traps, sound reflections, etc. Additionally, a listener will never hear the mix in an ideal room with ideal equipment; they would likely be using a Bluetooth speaker (mono) or headphones.

    • Headphone correction software: It makes sense to use it if you're working with cheaper models that aren't precise, or consumer-grade ones that are assumed to not be flat. The accuracy of the correction doesn’t matter because without measurements, it can't be verified; I assume they are correct and that they approach the ideal as closely as possible.
It's good to have a favorite headphones and stick to them.

    • In mixing on headphones and using software for correcting, in my humble opinion, the most important aspect is the crossfade between stereo channels. This is actually the only audible correction of headphone construction and bidirectional listening, because everything we hear is ultimately mono.
    "PRO" tips :)
-> Install Sonarworks Trial, create a headphone IR from your headphones profile, remove Sonarworks, insert the IR into any IR loader
-> airwindows monitoring3 (plugin) provides 4 types of headphones crossfeed just for a smile :)

For checking certain aspects of depth and width I like to use some cheap AKG 701 (open back!) headphones without any crossfade.

DearVR Mix is now a free option that works fairly well.

I have used Realphones with my HD600 and I like the sound, but this combination seems more suited to casual listening. YMMV.

Anyone here have tried ARC On Ear by IK Multimedia? It would be interesting to hear how it compare with the other options available for room simulations

Gotta say that the headphone calibration profiles on AutoEQ for Equalizer APO are pretty nice. Grabbed a profile for each set of cans I use and it smooths them all out quite nicely. Not sure what was used to build those profiles, but they seem to do the trick quite nicely...

How do you get it work in ASIO? I couldn't.

I would try them all using the various free trial options. We all hear things differently, so what's good for me might not be good for you. Personally, I've settled on a paid version of APL Virtuoso 2. It gels with my headphones (HD 490 Pro) and my ears, and it sounds really good in stereo mode with the control room preset.

I have all RME converters - the drivers for RME are the gold standard for win based audio. All the RME device I/O's just show up and work- even the system board realtek audios. I did nothing special for ASIO.

The APO is really THE thing on the win side because one can load up all the profiles in the APO configuration app and then just turn on which ever profile you need and turn off the rest. No latency issues or artifacts. Time to re-run REW again and generate APO profiles for my 3 sets of room monitors. After that just load them all up and point and shoot which profile I need at any given time and turn the rest off from the APO configurator.

Are you using a volume offset to compensate for the EQ correction?

It's funny how audio professionals calibrate their listening environment, and spend thousands doing it. But I agree, you could do it your way, but why would you when the target calibration is independent of the speaker or headphone being used.
