    I remember that I used to watch tv on PC, and Mtv was always in background.
    Now it's all gone, damn nostalgy.

    Here during the sun eclipse of august 1999.

    Why did they wait so long to get rid of that garbage, as long as they were profiting they kept it going even though almost everyone was sick of it and not watching anymore. The era of MTV was long gone well over 20 years ago. Time for something new and interesting. but that will be very difficult. The world is moving and changing too fast and it seems most don't have any common interests anymore.

    You have to sell advertising to a private broadcaster; the price, or rather the revenue from the ads, depends on the ratings.
    If the ratings drop, either the programming gets worse, or they disappear from the market.

    The Tagesschau (prime-time early evening news) costs up to €90,000 for 30 seconds.

    End after 44 years

    Paramount Skydance shuts down MTV music channels
    Updated: December 31, 2025

    It's the end of an era. After 44 years, Paramount Skydance is shutting down its international MTV music channels. The reason is competition from streaming services and social media—and competition with Netflix.

    Thus ends the era that began in 1981 with a famous music video: "Video Killed the Radio Star". Ironically, radio, often declared dead, is still quite alive 44 years later.

    Like I always say: the only thing this rotten fucking system wants is to churn out an army of mindless scrolling zombies with their brains leaking out their ears. Obviously, blasting actual good music could turn you into a sharp, dangerous motherfucker (either from the pure genius in the musical structure or the lyrics that actually say something), so naturally, the powers that be would rather ram infinite streams of brain-rotting reality show garbage down your throat to mass-produce more drooling, phone-humping idiots shambling through life like the vacant corpses they’ve become... sad but extremely true...

    PS: Happy New Year to everyone:drunks:

    Thank you @Mynock for your witty comment!

    The whole of MTV these days is just TV noise in sea of noise... In some cases tho MTV (the music video portion) actually exposed some new generations to what music ACTUALLY WAS (when playing 70's 80's 90's pop, rock, and even some cross over stuff). Like playing an instrument or two or three, writing original lyrics, not scamming and using samples off of real musicians and calling it your own... Now all the new generation chowder heads will have to learn about what real music is from their aunties... what-the-fuck-ever .. who really gives a shit anyway... Buddy Rich was right - "If you don't have musical ability you'll end up playing in a rock band somewhere" or worse, sitting in a bedroom trying to sample other peoples work so you can possibly capitalize on it...

    Talking about mindless zombies, when was the last time you had a serious or important conversation with anyone, when you ask them to look look at you instead of their stupid fucking phones, after less than 2 minutes their eyes and heads start looking around aimlessly by minute 3 they start looking down at the addiction in their hand, after about 20 seconds more they start jittering or shuffling like junkies needing a fix and then tell you they just just remembered they have an important appointment or have go somewhere to meet someone. Almost the entire planet completely and hopelessly addicted, brainwashed and controlled by a small handheld easily tracked device. Brings to mind the famous lyrics "Nowhere to run, nowhere to hide" from the 1965 hit song "Nowhere to Run" by Martha and the Vandellas.
    Then only thing missing for the moment are rapidly approaching footsteps and a voice saying " We're rounding them up Sir, no resistance, understood, "yes sir" fire at will."

    Your observation is so absolutely, positively spot on it's - sad, hopeless, and ridiculous all at the same time... An entire world of Phone-Tards with no help, or salvation coming, or even possible. The affliction is not generational, nor demographic, but it's rampant like a plague. The fucking covees virus has got nothing on this. it's everywhere.

    I tried to set the YouTube marker at the exact moment in the video, but it seems audiosex.pro doesn’t allow precise timestamp indexing. For those who are into it, just jump to the 50‑second mark and feel that chill down your spine when you realize: it’s already happening!

    —imagine to be across the world and know The Enemy secrets... to place our thoughts into the minds of your leaders, make your teachers teach the true version of History, your soldiers attack on our command... we will be everywhere at once, more powerful in a whisper, invading your dreams, thinking your thoughts for you while you sleep... we will change you, Dr Jones... all of you, from the inside... we will turn you into us... and the best part? you won't even know it's happening!

    Remember the days when people stopped on the streets to chat with you, then someone else would stop and join in. Phones were in your homes, no cells. you had phone booths outside everywhere. Everyone could read, write and speak clearly and intelligibly. If someone had an appointment they brought along a book, magazine or newspaper to read while they were waiting. We were brought up to respect and help others specially the disabled and elderly. We didn't need Gyms and workout centers we were just too busy and extremely active.

    So, I totally get that nostalgia... there are things from that era that were truly special and that we really miss today. At the same time, I think memory sometimes paints everything in a rosier color than it actually was (especially since you kind of branched out a bit from the musical discussion into the habits and customs of the time, right?). In the end, every era has its highs and lows. The ideal would be to take the best of the past and mix it with the very best of the present has to offer, but the issue is that the common people don't have the right to everything, you know? but hey, that’s a therapy session I’m not qualified to run. Peace out! :wink:

    MTV --> Broadcasting start 1. Aug. 1981
    World Wide Web --> 1989

    MTV was very successful back then until the internet took off and YouTube was founded;
    in retrospect, we had a great television program from MTV for about 10 years.

    ABSOLUTELY!
    There is also thread where we discussed this and other effects of time, I see if can get it.
    And if you're interested, have a look to Vsauce clip, though not specific to the rosier effect:

    you're truncating a decade or two off MTV's useful lifespan by tying it to the web instead of youtube/napster/whatever
