It's an advanced dynamic convolution technology (V.A.S.T.) based around using ultrasound to capture hardware impulses that are then applied to digital audio files, thus closely mimicking the hardware from the applied IR. The Nebula VST plugin is the IR loader, it is currently on version 4.5.

Contrary to popular belief it IS possible to run acustica acua AND nebula 4.5 side by side. Some of the latest stuff tho... "cassette" emu's??? Been passing on that stuff. There are some very excellent compressor limiter and eq devices tho that rivals UAD. It's actually worth the time to get it all running.

 

Agree. Machine Learning is basically the same concept of Nebula with (theorically) more detail on the snapshots because AI would learn the nuances of the HW instead of taking static snapshots from different stages and setups of the hardware like Nebula.

But Machine Learning is still flawed on this moment IMO. NAM and Proteus lacks of controls, i still don't know a propper compressor with full parameter control built with machine learning. I actually know compressor captures, but you can't change the controls. I do like Deep Vintage stuff. The only people that did it properly for now.

With Nebula you got TONS of libs that stood the test of time and are still used (in silence) by a lot of people, and the people who like it (as me) tend to love it, spread the love, but putting zero efford on trying to prove anything for haters. Maybe that's why some people don't go for it, hard setup, huge CPU expense and non intuitive controls. But when you nail it... It's gorgeous and becomes hard to live without Nebula.

I like some Acustica plugins, they tend to be less expensive on CPU, but they don't got the same quality due the amount of kernels. But still, there are Acustica plugins which are wonderful sounding and it's the same tech.

I should add that most of the hate is not because of the Nebula tech, it's due to Acustica Audio behavior to both customers and those 3rd-pary lib developers. They're different things.

 

100%. I'm a Nebula supporter, and you need to keep in mind the fact Acustica doesn't support Nebula right now. I treat Acustica like a Nebula dev with GUI. And Acustica, by far, doesn't have the best sampling among Nebula devs. Maybe that's why Giancarlo stopped supporting them and started selling libraries with GUI's as plugins.

F Acustica. Download the Nebula framework from the Sister Site and save the money to buy up-to-date libraries from 3rd party devs

when somebody offers me to download and install 1 or 2 gigabytes(!) to enable a sub-plug-in for a plug-in, which is already difficult to install, and which should give me the option to emulate a mixing desk from 1960 in a DAW, i do not even want a free or non-legit version of that, not to speak of paying for it and then getting insulted or ignored by their support.

 

The cassette ones are fun! Not for everyone, but i find use for them in hip hop, indie, punk, really anything as a tone shaper and vibe giver. The cassette version 3 comes with extras like comps ran through cassette, and reverb ran through cassette. Those bonus programs are awesome. Really vibey stuff.
