So I'm the one who was asking about Addictive Drums 2 and how I'm nervous on the keygen... make fun of me all you want. Turns out I have a license for Addictive Drums 2 via a Focusrite interface. I'm sure it is dumbed down and comes with limited drum kits. My question is if the adpaks I can find would work with legit AD2 or those need to be patched somehow? My guess/assumption is it won't work.

You want to use non-legit expansions with the legit software which you must install via XLN online installer. No, it doesn't work. Go the legit way OR got to the non-legit way (completely non-legit). You cannot mix them, in this case.

As I recall, every AD expansion has its own info for registration because you may aquire them separately. When you go the non-legit way you just generate one license for all of them.

I just ran the keygen from another site and it came up the same way. Lots of warnings about keygen, hacktool, PUP, etc.

I ran it inside Crossover and it works perfectly. I wouldn't waste your time with this. Just use Sandboxie or run the kg as is..

 

Doesn't the keygen have to read like your hardware ID or something? Will that work in Sandboxie?

 

I'm on Mac. But I looked on other site where the keygen warnings were brought up, and people mentioned sandboxing, using VM, etc. So it probably has no issue getting your hardware ID. And that is all the information the keygen needs to do its thing.

So now that is three sources where the original keygen had those same warnings. I would take that to mean the one you found elsewhere was probably not tampered with. But you should find a better place to get torrents than TPB anyway. I would get it from the News site (or obviously sister site), but it is the entire release compressed. I'm not downloading 10gb just to check one file I would just run.

If you have this kind of anxiety over VirusTotal results, try to remember that VirusTotal is useful, but only if you treat it like a panel of biased witnesses, not a jury verdict. Also, it's why you have a firewall. If it was a ransomeware/crypter it would not say "generic upx packer".

There is a lot of incentive for all of those smaller engines to flag stuff shall we say "aggressively".
When you see a bunch of big well-known engines like Symantec, Kaspersky, etc. and giving you real names of malware then worry about it. When you see 1000 completed downloads and 200 people sharing a file, you can trust even more so. Just don't do that kind of math on TPB and with major applications like MS Office or something.
