    why should this change anything?

admin mode just has more rights, but no speed restrictions. why would they, lots of stuff is done in admin, would be crazy if there were speed restrictions.

    I'm gonna try that now.
i have noticed something weird. All files inside the Core Library folder are very small... And this straight for the R2R archives... upload_2025-12-4_12-13-37.png

They rearrange the Library, lots of the db files are there, but are zero bytes.
Is this the STEAM download for v3 from sister page?
    Then it is correct.

    Hey @yabiss, this should work:

    GO TO:
    C:\ProgramData\Spectrasonics\STEAM\Omnisphere\Soundsources\User
Delete the zmap.index and load the Standalone Omnisphere to rebuild the Presets!

How Do I Find My STEAM or SAGE Folder?

On Windows, the Spectrasonics folder is located here:

    C:/ ProgramData/ Spectrasonics

Note: The ProgramData folder is a hidden folder by default on Windows, so you'll need to
"Show Hidden Files and Folders" in your Control Panel / Folder Options.

    Source: www.spectrasonics.net/support/knowledgebase/article/view/27/21

Delete the Index File to Force Rebuild:
    • Navigate to your STEAM folder.
    • Inside, go to the Soundsources subfolder (or root if not present).
    • Find and delete the file named zmap.index (it may be hidden; enable "Show hidden files" on Windows or use Finder's "Show All"
    • This file stores path references; deleting it triggers Omnisphere to rescan and rebuild the database with updated paths.
    C:\ProgramData\Spectrasonics\STEAM\Omnisphere\Soundsources\User

    zmap.index

I couldn't find the STEAM.db anywhere. Bold as I am, I've deleted the whole fSTEAM older - and yes - it solved the issue with category switches and works as supposed! Thank you very much for your help! I will have to reinstall my 3rd party libraries again, but for me was abolutely worth it in terms of speed[/QUOTE]

Omnisphere 3 is an update to Omni2. Why you have 2 libraries is a mystery. Just merge the Omnisphere 3 library folder you downloaded (possibly located in the "Omnisphere 3 > Data > STEAM folder) with your current Omnisphere 2 library folder (usually located in the default location of Programdata>Spectrasonics>STEAM folder). There is no need to have 2 libraries when only one of them has a very small amountt of new sounds in it.

The solution to the mystery is the copy protection in the library.

You simply need to overwrite the old Omnisphere 2 folder with the new Omnisphere 3 folder using copy and paste.
You absolutely must download the complete Omnisphere 3 library and simply overwrite the old one.

    C:\ProgramData\Spectrasonics\STEAM\Omnisphere

Note: The ProgramData folder is a hidden folder by default on Windows, so you'll need to
"Show Hidden Files and Folders" in your Control Panel / Folder Options.

@PulseWave is absolutley right. it's working perfectly, if you just uninstall and clean your System from the old Exe and VST-Files and leave the Steam-folder where it is. Then simply copy the new library over V2 (Steam-folder) and install the latest Omnisphere Update, reg it via standalone app, 1st start also via standalone.. and done. It doesn't matter, what Addons you have installed (got everything here).

Ok. I solved the problems by checking every folder inside my STEAM folder and there were TWO effing corrupt ones. 0 kb size and undeletable.
So i launched CMD in Admin mode.
With the following command to delete those pesky corrupt folders.
rd /s /q \\?\E:\TROUBLESOMEFOLDERNAME\ . You replace e:\TROUBLESOMEFOLDER with your own corrupted path and folder.
And then i trashed the shortcut to STEAM which was inside c:\ProgramData\Spectrasonics and created a new one using the following command and not the context menu "create shortcut"
mklink /d "C:\ProgramData\Spectrasonics\STEAM" "E:\STEAM" you obviously replace E:\STEAM with your own path. This makes Windows believes it's on C: meanwhile you can locate your STEAM folder exactly where you want it to be.

Then i moved all the third party patches and Multis and soundsources to this new STEAM folder being careful not to replace the Omnisphere 3 version with older files.

Duplicate Cleaner found 2709 empty folders in STEAM folder. Could this slow down library loading?
I'm not sure if I should delete them.

Hello @Waver, Omnisphere 3 will run a bit faster if you delete the empty files. However, only delete them if they are truly empty and located in the STEAM folder. Spectrasonics themselves have repeatedly confirmed that empty folders in STEAM serve no purpose and can be deleted.
