It's great that you're writing about this; the world is already filled with sounds, from birdsong to street noise. Actually, our world is too loud. It gets more bearable in the city in the evenings after 9 p.m., and I almost always listen to music or podcasts in the background, drowning out the outside noise. It's certainly good for your brain/soul to listen to less music.

Best of 3D Street Art Illusion - You can also turn off the music in the video.

I only discovered yesterday that keyboard legend and Soft Machine founder Mike Ratledge passed away on 5 february 2025. So sad, he was one of my true heroes, brilliant player and composer. With his thick moustache, dark glasses and curtains of long hair, Ratledge also projected an image of impenetrable cool. The NME journalist Ian MacDonald described him as “tall, super-intelligent, forceful, self-possessed, and altogether daunting”. Rest in peace.

@Sackbut I really like listening to jazz, especially from the 70s and 80s, it's a completely different level of music compared to the popular music of those years.

    Archie Shepp, „Attica Blues“

Archie Shepp, tenor saxophonist and occasional collaborator of John Coltrane, used his talent to protest the deaths of over 40 inmates and guards during a 1971 riot at Attica State Penitentiary. The title track of that album was a collaboration of over 30 people, including a recitation of the lyrics by lawyer William Kunstler. The song has been described as "a tribalistic frenzy of almost hysterical proportions, ranking among the most astonishing sonic events ever recorded." Shepp went on to pursue active careers as a musician and university professor.

Wow @Recoil ✪, what a great piece, I love it! I still remember two musicians I listened to as a young man:

    Ry Cooder - Paris, Texas

Leo Kottke live in Germany 1977

Love the Brick By Brick album. Kate Pierson's vocals on Candy are so perfect.
Got me in the mood for Livin' On The Edge Of The Night from the movie Black Rain.
