If it sounds good, make sure you are not in bypass.

 

No matter how tired and exhausted you are in the evening, save your completed work to an external medium.

 

always hit that record button when playing an instrument.. even if that means 99% of your recording is shit. that 1% can be magic

make breaks. your ears get tired, your mix suffers

 

When using the EQ, remember that you can also attenuate frequencies.
Also, keep in mind that you can't edit frequencies that aren't present.

Allways have a limiter on the master out, will save your hearing if using headphones and save your monitors otherwise.

Automate/modulate stuff in ways that weren't meant to be. Resample everything.

That's evil. Heroin is easier on my system than ice cream. I also make sure to keep my gallons of heroin in a different room, maybe even under a todo list. I find that doing short non-taxing tasks/chores in those 15-20 minutes break, like acquiring more heroin, also add to the break benefit and help with the mental reset by forcing the ole' think-0-matic to focus elsewhere for a bit.

 

With real instruments - Gainstage then stereo field placement while everything is still dry before even thinking about opening a plugin.

I created this thread to discover unconventional techniques people use. Like in the video I shared, where the guy uses the metronome sound to spot exact amount of latency in his recording setup. I would have never thought of that in a million years.
