hi everyone, im changing daw and not sure what to get. i have used FL for 2 years and im over it and looking for a change.
i make trance music so i use a lot of soft synths and samples editing. im after something that has a really good mixer and is also very friendly when making trance music. i was thinking along the lines of cuebase or pro tools, not to much of a fan of ableton, so yea any help would be great because it is a lot of money and i wonna make sure i get something that suits me best. also im running PC

    thank you :dunno: :dunno: :dunno:

Been beaten to it but I'd say logic or cubase, and logic's mac
plenty of other's to try before you buy though, bitwig, samplitude, sonar, studio one, reason, traction, reaper! (and the rest) I reckon all could manage it with the right fx and instrument plugs. Maybe your budget will help you decide, do you want to spend money on fx or instruments or samples, May help you decide if you check what they offer in respect to how you work and what you think you can't live without. Happy hunting

Logic is older than anything and have good synths with low cpu
You do not need to buy a mac, just build a hackintoh probably with what you have.
OS X do not as fast like win8, but you do not have to lost your hair with virus and all the files do not need to be search, you find ease and fast.
Steinberg have many things that I like, so Reason, but the most complete and open is Logic.
Its just fast, everything is quick OS X is free also.
Its another language changing DAW, I advise to keep the old while studing the news DAW or OS, its very good know more than one DAW, but you have to study.
I am really old, I think pass more than 30 years since I saw old logic name: Notator, obviouly good notation and about midi: really no one compares to logic.
    Hope you test all
Study is high price, sometimes give money, other times just selfsatisfaction

If you don't like Ableton, not sure you'll like Bitwig.
You can give a try on Cubase workflow with an older version (you can get the 5.5 (a stripped down version(but still completely work-able)) for free).

    Hi TESLLA,

Reaper is a great DAW too.
I started on FL Studio, and moved to Reaper 3 years ago and i don't regret it at all.
Works very well with vst's and low CPU.

    Worth the try....

if u have complete tracks in your fingertips as Orjan Nilsen has than Cubase will be ok (u can still use FL as sampler in it)

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y1hRHozjMk8

otherwise /so if u create tracks through trial and error processes/ should wait Bitwig 1.1 with audio/midi routing, sidechaining, multi-out VSTi handling etc. (hope it's almost here)

ps. before u buy Cubase IMO should watch this trance making tutorial video: http://producerbox.com/categories/409/Cubase.html as u gonna see its workflow definitely can be pita /automation, layering, clip management etc. are much slower processes than in FL, u gonna miss the piano-roll of FL too / especially after FL Studio

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ox0FhtLf0_4

    - track and mixer management is pita in FL, but it has a great piano-roll, cool automation handling with controllers and invisible cables and the Patcher to build synth layers and fx chains
    - track and mixer management is great in Cubase (especially in 7.5 with the newly added track versions feature and it has great sound using only with its stock plugins),

FLvsCubase5vsCubase7 (Sylenth1 ones with same presets, same samples, same everything except the built-in plugins)
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oWsiaIcUFIA#t=55
but it hasn't got great piano roll and cool automation handling and u can't build easily synth layers and fx chains in it

so this is why I'm using Cubase and FL as VSTi together ... :) and waiting Bitwig 1.1 or 1.2 which hopefully gonna integrate both worlds together

Cubase has quite strange automation model which definitely not so fun as is in FL

    :)

I am curious, is the mixer for FL the only problem you have and reason for wanting to switch? Have you seen their upcoming update? They have recreated the GUI using vector graphics. basically FL is about to have a dope ass GUI that is scalable.

Unless you want to get the Protools HD System than stay away from it. Honestly Pro Tools is suited more for tracking and mixing than it is for EDM production. If you have a MAC platform or are interested in buying a MAC than you can't beat Logic Pro for $200, great tools for producing EDM from beginning to end. If you just have a PC than go with Cubase. Reaper is a great DAW as well but I have never liked producing electronic music with it, has a protools feel to me. I personally love Ableton and produce most of my sounds with it and will finish all my mixing in Logic, but you don't like Ableton :(

It is the best MIDI editor out there. No other DAW's MIDI editor gets close to it in my opinion.

In answer to your statements and without all the "hoop-la".......Go Cubase, you can try it for 30 days but you'll need to but a dongle!

It doesn't matter what DAW you choose, as long as you know how to use/abuse it.
Pick one you like. Learn it through and through.

I'm using Cubase for a number of reasons, but that doesn't make me go "Get Cubase!".

I left Cubase for Studio One and I'm not sorry that I did: Much more intuitive and much faster workflow to get things done. Give it a try.

I Love S1, still have FL Studio so I can use some of their excellent vsti's inside S1 (using rewire/jbridge etc)

In fact, you can use FL Studio rewired AND as plugin inside another DAW.
A lot of ppl forget this option, because there are very few DAWs doing it (EXT2, Usine...).

Very nice if you like FL synths or effects, or you want to use FL step sequencer, modular routing and more : load FL as VST or VSTi INSIDE your DAW.
Setting will be saved with the host project.

So, if you are PC and don't want to go Mac/Hackintosh wayn, don't really like Ableton/Bitwig, try Studio One and Cubase. And load FL Studio as plugin inside them to see how it works for you

On Mac, i would have said Logic or Cubase. But with Mac/Hackintosh, you loose FL Studio...

Comments about recommending Ableton Live are being deleted here somehow. I wonder why?

wow thanks for all the feed back really helpful, the main problems in fl i have is for some reason it crashes constantly, iv seen some stuff on youtube that it might be because im running 64bit but not sure and also the mixer is a joke. but everything else in fl is really good especially the speed i can get stuff done. one thing im looking for is something that has a similar work flow speed and good mixer. i might just wait till fl 12 comes out and hope it doesn't crash XD

also does anyone know when FL 12 comes out?

have u tried the native 64Bit version of FL Studio, the release candidate version(there is no expiring date in it) been released this week

release note is here : http://forum.image-line.com/viewtopic.php?f=1947&t=123831 installer is here : http://demodownload.image-line.com/flstudio/flstudio_11.1_combined_rc1.exe

"mixer is a joke" yepp, Cubase has a definitely a better one. so give it a try and download its trial http://www.steinberg.net/en/products/cubase/trial.html , Elements is a dongle free one ... and drop FL as VSTi into it

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2LlEHZ9Ajd8

currently I'm using FL only as idea generator(its piano-roll is an ubeatable one) / synth rack (with Patcher) for layering, and putting the MIDI etc. parts into Cubase /as in the video/ but it's a matter of taste ofc.

Ableton is the Boss, especially for EDM stuff. i like the loop/pattern based session view, which makes a faster workflow possible than any other DAW. also the UI is straightforward and easy to understand. once finish, you only need to copy the clips/sequences into the arrange view, or via real time recording. then you can automate the sequences, cutting the audio material and so on. but mostly i'm too lazy for arranging a track and stay on the session window.
