sennheiser are such rofl newbie shit it isn't even funny.
the specs and quality of these headphones are no different than your average 10 dollar pair you can get at your local shopping center.
people assume they are good because of the hyperinflated marketing that goes along with them.
of course, all of it is 100% fabricated, similar to intel products ;).
one thing ive noticed about people that use sennheiser products, generally speaking they cant hear or are fundamentally tone deaf.
to someone who can hear, they cant hear on any of these headphones.
for most, they discover this too late, after they have already spent 500+ USD on a pair, only to realize, they've been scammed.

ive literally tried about every headphone spec/design known to man at some point or another
I havent found a pair of studio quality headphones that can remotely compare to the Sony MDR 7509 HD.
for people who CAN hear and can identify frequencies greater than 20-20, the dimension of frequency response/depth, flatness, and clarity of sound cant be matched - for any genre.
This is the type of headphone you can accurately do an an entire mixdown/master with, even in surround, and never need to use any monitors.

For active nearfield studio monitors (which most people use), I personally find the Mackie MK2 series to be an overall nice high quality, flat, and more than adequate for any serious home studio - or professional for that matter.

if you need surround sound monitoring, dont let genelic, etc rob you.
mix/match or BUILD your own. you will save alot of money, and get a better suited custom reference for your production.

Personally, I recommend anyone to physically build their own speakers if they can take the time to do the research on how to properly do it.

Thank you crumpy.. that makes me tone deaf

Mind you.. I have been mixing and mastering using a pair of Sennheiser HD600 for almost 15 years now.. and my work has been reviewed by pro Sounds Engineers around the globe
and praised for the good quality.. there must be quite a number of tone deaf people around too, besides me.

Thank god we've got you

I must admit I love this place, not because it informs and helps sharing but because is a constant source of laughter.

conducted within a research facility, and documented...
just as people have better than 20-20 vision, hearing applies just the same.
not everyone is AVERAGE, or NORMal.
IQ relates along the same lines.
sounds like you have something to prove, not me.
for an underdeveloped brain, you can expect nothing more than average performance from all senses.

science defies you, that is all really.
it seems you take the institutions (THE MAN) word for everything,
    versus actually implementing research.
otherwise you would know that is nothing more than mere fabrication as well,
used as an instrument by people to justify their lack of ability.
its called disinformation, and its been going on longer than you have been alive.

familiar to history books written by nations that do not want to admit the truth,
thus the entire content of the book is a complete fabrication.
thankfully the truth exists, but I doubt it will help YOU hear any better.

Thank you for this very useful piece of information.

Could you please direct me to the documented research you mention?

Being a music teacher I cannot tell my students that what is in their book is wrong unless I can bring evidence to prove it.
I cannot just say "it has been researched and documented". They will want to know who carried out the research, where when and how (you know kids.. always very curious).

    Thanks in advance.

indexed through google... i mean, you are on a computer right?
that would be like me taking you to a present day concentration camp (alternate living facility),
you still wouldn't believe it existed standing in the middle of it, even though there are more now than then... waiting

thats probably one of the greatest concepts behind dehumanization and demoralization. conformity through disbelief.
your mind has to translate the information available on your own to arrive at a definitive conclusion that is acceptable for your understanding.
this can only really be accomplished through individual research directed at presumably counteracting a pre-existing state of transitional thought related to mental conditioning.
we receive information 24/7/365+1, that doesn't mean that you or anyone else will ever believe anything other than what you have been told to believe.
instead avenues of information are provided as an alternative means to guide those that might be curious to learn otherwise.
however, nobody is demanding that you believe something else other than that which is within your zone of perceptual comfort.

still plenty of counter-intuitive information out there.
everything that suggests hearing above/beyond 20/20 is impossible
everything in between that demonstrates how its more than possible.
the most arguable factor appears to be attributed to age...
however, personally I think it has to do with genetics, or induced development of the senses,
a multidimensional state of perceptual development that most will never accomplish/experience without aid...
mostly resulting from the imposed mental conditioning that has been designed to shut down our inherent perceptual cognitive abilities from a young age.
    you're welcome!

This is all your personal opinion, which I respect, of course.. we all have our own, but...

Couldn't you just say you don't have any piece of hard evidence to support your case?

If you do, would you be so kind to share it with us? If you don't.. I rest my case :dunno:

I'm still using my 17 years old hifi-loudspeakers, but 2012 will be the year for something better. most likely a pair of the Adam A7X monitors. a discount of 100 € or more would be nice.. :grooves:

Monitor choice is pretty much personal preference. There are a lot of good quality near field monitors at affordable prices. My personal research leans toward KRK for sound for the money. Go out and listen. Now info you can use. I recently purchased Audio Technica headphones ATH-M50. Love the sound and the way they seal for monitoring while recording, but the coiled cable is a pain, and they aren't as comfortable as some phones I've had. They sound nothing like my old AKGs but I am starting to get a feel for them. Not saying one is better than the other, you just have to adapt your "inner reference".

+1 for Audio Technica ATH-M50s (straight cable version)

These professional studio monitor headphones have a very accurate response, great at resolving detail. They excel at tracking, monitoring and sound design, even handy for ballpark mixes. Good value for money, and approaching audiophile quality for casual listening.
