Kali IN-8 (2nd wave) would be a solid upgrade.

This is such a subjective thing that I wouldn't even feel right recommending speakers for YOU with MY ears.
Going to the music store and actually hearing the various speakers already did more for you than all the answers you may read here.

Yamaha hs8 or And if you have a little more money to spare, then the ADAM Audio A8H are definitely worth a look.

Hello, great question. Overall, it really depends on what YOU prefer. Some people prefer Genlec, while others hate them. This goes for the HS* line, KRK, Barefoot, Focal, etc. I personally am fine with my HS8s in a not very well-treated room. A major part of this is because I know them so well (I also got used to not being able to do anything about the room treatment). Personally, what you should do is measure out your room or give specs of your room and/or what your options and possibilities are for treatment. A reason to think about this is that each speaker will sound different in a given room. Now here are some specifics:

I will be using what I know about Yamaha HS8s / the HS series, since that is what I know the most about. If your room is small (let’s say under ~10 ft x ~12 ft or more confined, near-walls, less treated), a big woofer/low extension monitor will show room issues (bass build-up, modal problems, reflections) much more. If you are producing music with heavy low-end (like club music or modern pop), then having a monitor that can extend lower is helpful, but only if the room supports it reliably. Smaller monitors (HS5) can sometimes be placed closer to the wall/desk and still work; larger ones (HS8) demand more spatial clearance. A monitor that is too large for a small, untreated room can mislead you. Several user posts I have found throughout my research over the years say "HS7" or similar middle-range speakers are a sweet spot for many home studios. Also, a monitor that is “too small” might hide issues (you won’t hear the subs, your kick/bass may translate poorly to larger systems).

Personally, I always recommend using Audeze LCD-X. What does a good monitor/treating installation cost? >1200? Get the LCD-X then IMO. Also, with the LCD-X, you can take it with you anywhere. Let me know any specs you have, or if you are ABSOLUTELY decided on monitors VS a really good pair of cans and some good reference tracks.

There are 2 reasons to hate Genelecs:

    1) The Price
    2) Thought they would suddenly make you better at mixing; but instead, can just hear your mistakes better.

    The End.

That's the idea. To hear your mistakes and correct them. Solid reason.

If you’re in an untreated small room new speakers 99% are not going to do anything but create more issues, specially if you go for bigger ones. It’s not an exaggeration. If that’s the case I would keep smaller ones that I’m used to, until knowing what the worst issues are in my room, often it’s a couple of frequencies

It's a good reason to use them, not to "hate them". Nearly every high end comparison from Sound On Sound, MusicTech, and Mix Magazine rates them as the most accurate and consistent monitors made. There are lots of great monitors with maybe better value dollar per dollar. But to say "hate them" is like someone saying a Mercedes is not good enough for them. Any of the top tier monitors are so close that if someone wants to say they can't mix on them, it's because they can't mix.

I have to agree with you 100%. I myself have HS8+sub and sat in an untreated room for years. Last year, I spent €2,000 and had my room completely treated.
I can tell you, it's like night and day.

Here are my measurements after insulation.

What is your budget? Start there. You know how this works anyway. If you asked "what monitors do you use?", you would get the same results as asking for recommendations.

How long have you been using them? People usually stick with the same studio monitors because they know them very well.
Some professional sound engineers even take their own speakers with them when they work elsewhere.

    Yamaha HS 5 = €159 | ADAM Audio T7V = €199 | Neumann KH 120 II = €769
Sometimes it's worth visiting an ear, nose, and throat doctor for a hearing test; your hearing may have deteriorated.

You can also measure your room: IK Multimedia ARC Studio = €279
    - Standalone frequency response correction for stereo monitoring systems
    - Room correction independent of DAW or speakers
    - Easy creation of correction profiles

I have no idea your budget, though I would venture to say any upgrade would mean larger woofers than the 4" Tannoy Reveal 402...and some sound reinforcement thrown in for good measure. If you can't hear the low end and in addition your room rings with phantom frequencies it is extremely problematic.

A lot of hate on these, but to me the setup that works anywhere is ns10 or cla10 + sub or headhones

Forget the Genelecs her bald man will rattle them in no time during his long royal Jah dub sessions, with booming bass and herbal smoke gunking up the tweeters

Yamaha almost couldn't give them away when they were first released. Now people like them for mids and collapsing to mono. Small room with a subwoofer isn't going to be great in most cases, which is probably one of the reasons why they invented subpac. The NS10 suggestion could be ok and in the same direction as some Avantone Mixcubes. Everything below the kick would be non-existent almost. Short of "fixing the room," headphones checks are going to be a fact of life either way. We don't even know the room dimensions. I think I would probably land on either the Yamaha HS5s or the JBL 305s or 306s. One thing to remember is that you can still use a bigger monitor in a smaller room, because it's not like they won't sound better if you do not crank them. 85dB is 85dB no matter how much louder your setup will go. You can always add a systemwide eq or room correction software to get them back in check for the room.
