Loomer is out of business: developer of Aspect 2 synth, Sequent 2 multi-FX, and more - November 8, 2025

According to the latest info, UK-based developer Loomer, creator of the Aspect 2 Synthesizer or Sequent 2 multi-FX, is out of business.

The plugin market is very dynamic. There’s a constant coming and going of players. New plugin developers arrive, while others disappear, often quietly.

Now the latter has happened again. The UK-based plugin developer Loomer (Loomer.co.uk), which has been on the market for over 15 years, has apparently shut down its business.

    Loomer Out Of Business
The first users noticed this at the end of September when they visited the website and tried to contact Colin, the company head and developer. Both attempts failed. Today, if you visit the official website Loomer.co.uk, you’ll find a message from an unpaid hosting service provider.

This is likely a final sign that Loomer has now definitively ceased operations. There has been no official announcement. Since Loomer generally had no social media presence or made advertising, the closure has been very quiet.

The possible motives (personal or financial) are also unknown at this time. I think it’s economic, as the plugin market has declined over the last 1-2 years. People have limited financial resources, but developers still need to make a living.

Colin has been very active in updating his plugins over the past few years. In 2024, I reported on the major free update for his semi-modular Synthesizer Aspect 2.

There was also a big free 2.0 update for its Sequent sequencing multi-FX plugin in 2023. Also, his String ensemble string Synthesizer plugin was updated back in 2021.

It’s a real shame to see another company go out of business. I hope Colin von Loomer can manage to reboot the whole thing in the future.

It’s unfortunate that existing users no longer have access to their installers. The Wayback Machine can preserve some files, but not all.

In my opinion, the Loomer plugins have often flown under the radar of many music producers, despite being of high quality. There were some real gems among them. Thank you for all the plugins you’ve created. I still hold onto the hope that the company will make a comeback.

its an edgy topic and it will simply boil into a politic discussion, which is hard to moderate and this means a lot of extra work. Thats why you get a warning.

Sad news ... they are so long around ...

We must preserve these plugins before they become lost completely, we only have windows so far so maybe it’s a good idea to hold onto Mac versions for preservation sake

Surely it's quite normal for companies to fail. The market is completely saturated & new companies arrive all the time. I do not se any deeper meaning in this news.

This is an extremely competitive business every other week someone comes out with a plugin that has most probably been overdone thousands of times each claiming to be the best in the world since sliced bread. The market is extremely oversaturated with them and in some cases causing really good developers to shut down from loss of customers and revenue. There is just so much inferior junk coming out it affects both developers and consumers sometimes not knowing which plugin to buy because of a lot of BS hype when these new so-called developers start releasing, in many cases there are freeware plugins that infinitely surpass the junk developers plugins. There are millions of distortions, reverbs, delays etc. junkware releases, do we need any others. Little known fact Santana used a small 12AX7 tube preamp that you could purchase in any electronics store, in the early days to get that sweet singing sustain and distortion, I still have one that I modified for more flexibility. That is the ultimate distortion from a time when Amps were produced to be clear and clean.

I do not think I have seen more than a few mentions of anyone using them. The top picture in the thread looks like trying to do too much in one plugin; but this kind of thing could be something as dumb as people not liking the company name. Low sales.

The economic downturn can't be the sole reason for closing down. People may be buying less due to having less discretionary income, but they had to be buying more before the downturn even happened. That is correlation vs causation. there is no way to be objective about it without having access to more information, like sales, accounting, cost of good sold, etc.

It's more economical to get a mail-order bride in this period of financial uncertainty.

The same way there was a wave of metal "recipe" : Dual Rectifier + V30 + dual SM57 (Fredman Technique).
But you still need a Tube Screamer in front, because Dual Rectifier is a badly balanced amp (i hate it BTW).
And that's why it works with V30 speakers AND tube screamer : it is unbalanced from start.

Of course, Mesa (and endorsed ppl) pushed this "recipe"... making millions dollars on the back of credulous ppl.

On the other side, you can get an used 6505 for 600 euros. No need for crappy V30 or Tube Screamer to rip.
Dual Recifier used : 1200 euros

How many bands only used 5150/6505 for their whole carrier ?

Over priced unneeded things (especially with Mesa amps import in Europe)

Perhaps he'll find a sponsor, partner with others, or maybe he'll even be acquired.
Loomer has seven products. Perhaps he'll look for a new job. We'll keep an eye on this; Loomer is one of the good companies.

Remember, the internet isn't a lawless space; bankruptcy is always a huge disaster for everyone involved.
Where did you get your accusations? Please provide evidence and links. Thanks!

I like Loomer's synths and FX. He's a good developer. He has just recently started to make them Linux native plugins, too, after so many years being just Windows plugins (kinda like ToneBoosters, that I like even more), so I feel rather sad about it. Yeah, maybe he should/will open-source them. I guess it depends on what happened with it (firm), or maybe him.

i want in no way accuse loomer of anything, i expressed my opinion to your "Loomer is one of the good companies". the missing of any information originating/ed from his company is knowledge i've got from your starting post. and that silence, in my honest opinion, is very unprofessional and unfair against their customers.
