We all remember the outrage that swept the Internet and ultimately played a role in defeating CISPA, a proposed law that would have allowed government agencies and tech companies to exchange private information about United States citizens without their knowledge and without a warrant. Well, it’s time to get ready for another round of outrage because CISPA’s controversial successor is now a step closer to becoming law.

Sen. Dianne Feinstein’s new proposal, dubbed “Cybersecurity Information Sharing Act of 2014″ or simply “CISA,” passed through the Senate Intelligence Committee on Wednesday, having been approved by a 12-3 vote, Motherboard reported.

According to Sen. Feinstein, CISA has undergone numerous changes compared to the original CISPA bill proposal, and the changes should help ease the concerns of CISPA critics. Civil liberty groups such as the Center for Democracy and Technology disagree.

Should CISA ultimately become law, it would allow companies to share private user data with local and federal law enforcement if the claim is made that it relates to any kind of alleged criminal activity that might be considered a “cyber threat.”

The proposal would also allow authorities to set up wiretaps without having to go through any court system to obtain a warrant.

“This very broad criminal purpose creates the possibility that cybersecurity information sharing becomes a backdoor wiretap, because law enforcement would be receiving information it otherwise would not get unless it showed probable cause,” Center for Democracy and Technology attorney Greg Nojeim told Motherboard when CISA was first proposed. “You don’t want a world where very robust cybersecurity information sharing turns into a law enforcement tool that’s used to prosecute people for completely unrelated crime.”

I'd like to know what's doing the people of United States. Are the people of USA supporting this kind of things? Are they giving up all their civil rights? Are they so afraid?

Being in the US, ill say my piece...

People dont even know this kind of shit is going on. They are more concerned with what Kim ass-hole Kardashians babys middle toe looks like rather than their own security. Thats why shit like this gets passed. The news covers the wrong stuff.

I stand by my statement (a long time ago) of citizens needing to create a compound free from this sort of tyrannical blubber. A society built on better bricks than what we are using to hold our current society together with today. (but people down talked my thoughts because anything that varies from the norm MUST be malicious or a 'cult'. All secondary societies MUST be like branch davidians.)

Think your own thoughts people, dont let society craft and push them for you.

As long as Capitalism is alive and well, corporate marketing will be "crafting" the robots thoughts... although its already begun in Socialist/Communist countries though (corporate marketing shit)... so only "the few" will escape:(

Somewhat on topic but mildly tangent to:

Why is the belief of Communism looked down upon as though it were crafted by heathens. Maybe im missing out on the whole reason WHY its bad, but it sounds like a damn good idea with some proper refinements.

No need for money, so no greed. No food or housing unless its built or grown, building a limitless boundary (though it would be damn hard work). No classes, so everyone is of a similar standing (no poor living the streets, no rich sitting in $10 million mansions, no middle classes 'just living').

It sounds like hard work, but with the right minds and right people and right 'rules' it wouldnt be bad. But a dictator can destroy it all. Should be leaderless. A collective agreement. King and Queen is atleast two minds to the matter and to the public, instead of a dictator or presidential situation which is just one (with a cabinet and such but they dont count). But a leaderless society could have a collection of many people they wish to assist in decisions.

No idea. The whole privacy bullshit just annoys. Cause we as citizens have ZERO say in what is done to us. And that should not happen. Its worse elsewhere, but there are different ranges of 'worse'. The poor and the middle class have little representation in the law making decisions and the rich may/may not pay attention to this kind of stuff. Its life changing though.

Why ppl should be aware of privacy troubles when they share their own ass pictures on Facebook ?

In a selfish, individualist, exhibitionist (and more) world, there is no need for privacy. Most ppl WANT to exhibit their privacy to the whole world. It is a lot more worst than misinformation.

    PS : i know, i'm grumpy

Fear is the key. When ppl have fears, they can follow anyone pretending to protect them.
Remember what happened after 9/11 with Guantanamo, Patriot (joke) Act and more.

Now most ppl think a law will protect them from the internet...

    Fears are killing your liberty.
