    Folks,
I'm looking for an acoustic drum library that comes closest to Mixosaurus. Their stuff was top-notch, even after all these years, nothing seems to match it. It was the only virtual drum set that felt truly natural, the detail and subtlety were incredible. The cymbal crashes had that perfect sizzle.. just beautiful.

Is there anything comparable these days?
I'm not a fan of Superior Drummer expansions, sorry. I can always tell when it's their product, no idea why, but something about it just doesn't sit right with me. Anyone else feel the same way?

    Cheers!

    The following are alternatives:

    - BFD3 (inMusic Brands)
    - Addictive Drums 2 (XLN Audio)
    - Steven Slate Drums 5.5 (Steven Slate Audio)

I seem to recall something about Steinberg Groove Agent's "The Kit" being comprised of Mixosaurus's original samples.

Mixosaurus is actually "acquired and rebranded" by Steinberg and now it is Steinberg Groove Agent The Kit , but that was never officially announced. But, comparing the samples, they are identical. Now I cant tell if it was just Mixosaurus The Kit A in there or there was and unreleased The Kit B mixed in one VST.
But If you're looking for Mixosaurus, for sure that is now Groove Agent The Kit and man, its beautiful in every sense, easier to handle, routing, small footprint on HDD, I mean, man great samples.
    Hope that helps :)

No, I don't feel the same way. Granted I have had Mixosaurus sitting in SSD #2 for years, but I never use it. The hihat was the main USP. After that, I have (as a progfunk/fusion drummer) surrendered to Superior Drummer and their latest expansions. Sure, some SDX:s are worse than others, but everything after, say, 2021 is still top-notch (Real to Reel, Hitmaker, Fields of Rock etc.).

BFD I do not care for much, even though I have every expansion. They machine gun at very rapid tempos. Subtle, but it's there. And the GUI is a PITA. Sure, the Jazz and Funk expansion is fun at times, as is their "Jazz Noir". Addictive Drums are ok for playing. Not for recording. Same with Slate Drums. His processed stuff (even though there are "raw" kits) hurts physically to play on a high-end e-kit. Don't get me started on GGD, which are too one-dimensional. I like MIxwave's stuff, though, but they still cannot compare favourably to anything released by Toontrack. Uwe sold Kit A to a major player years ago, and as already stated, that ought to have been Steinberg.

I uninstalled my Ocean Way Drums library years ago. Highly acclaimed at the time, and still good samples. But Kontakt is just not made for drum handling.

I can't agree more on that, Kontakt, even their Drum Libraries are cool sounding but handling multi-outs there is just pain in the axx! Therefore Kontakt is out of discussion for drums and that is definitely!
For drums simple must be standalone plugin with dedicated outputs, no Kontakt libraries... I personally wonder if licensing under Kontakt is more expensive than making dedicated VST? But I think Kontakt Library development and then licensing may be worse than making own VST... My guess....
