Hi guys, I just discovered this nice forum and though it's the right place to challange some people!

I'm really into Progressive-Goa-Trance and I allways wondered how they get these short, super clean yet deep and punchy basses.

Here's an excellent bass sample i rendered (Soultrigger - Daydin Remix) to show you what I'd like to achiev.

I tried to recreate samples like this (off-beat at 138bpm) with various tools, ranging from Massive to Trillian, layering samples, using recordings of live guitars, compressing them, saturating it, EQing it... but I never get these Crisp/Clean/Punchy results that I'm looking for. =/

I hope you guys have any great ideas =)) Greetings from switzerland

Lowpass filter enveloped saw + sine, layered with a top kick (for transient).
    No magic tricks.

    Cool!
Not sure the +2 octave sqr-sawII is needed (or at least at full volume). Play around with cutoff start and end position (that the filter envelope is controlling), and then mess around with filter envelope ADSR. Sometimes it can be the little fine-tunng that makes the big difference, instead of how it is EQ'd or compressed.
And like I said, try layering/line it up it with a top (highpassed) kick drum sample...just to get that very little click at the start. If you do that early on, you can then set the Massive cutoff filter to be a little more dull/darker, and still "hear" the bass because of the kick transient (just like you can identify a flute and not a sine, because of the blow/wind transient).
    Keep it up!
