i'll buy one. I already own a Push 3, and Move, but have been wanting an Akai for a while now. Nice to have options, with Push being the core of my desktop rig, and Move being a limited, but still awesome little groovebox, this will fill a nice space of fully standalone.

It really looks awesome. Powerful little beast. Im a little worried about the pads, but i have an APC 40 from Akai that is well over 10 years old, and has traveled across the globe multiple times and it still functions perfectly.

Its hard to compare this to Roland's new thing. Rolands has analog drum voices and filter, this has wayyyyy more features, although its not like the Roland is limited in features. Number one advantage of the Akai over the Roland is the massive screen.

did your mpc have any performance problems with rk3288? I heard small memory complaints - memory overloads in larger projects?
the new one has some ARM 8-core, 8 GB RAM, 128 GB hard drive
    it could be RK3588

The question is formulated wrong. We're in a midst of ARM computers on-the-go everything ... computer age. Computers as tiny as a Raspberry pie with power of CPUs from not even 10y ago, powered by embedded Linux for ARM, with an ability to run VST and VSTis, connect to a big monitor, and very low latency. That is worth 1600 bucks.

You can like embed a powerful ARM computer in a true keyboard workstation, for instance. Although I don't like that approach as much. Rather have a boxy thing like this that can work standalone, but expandable with a bigger screen and keyboard when/if needed. Nice.

No spyware removal, no driver problems etc. hypothetically, of course. I mean look at your smartphone... it used to be a phone, but now.. it's a spyware data collecting device.

So yeah, I like this Akai MPC as I like all MPCs. It's a really good concept. Except for the speakers! That's a bit ridiculous.

i agree if you hands are all over that speaker grille its looks like a dust an grime collector

I guess we could install Retroarch on MPC live or have a Atari emulator with midi apps:)

MPC has a long and rich heritage. I played around with the Akai MPC One for a bit before I sold it off. I was not super happy with the workflow, as it was not as intuitive or powerful as I thought it would be. I did like the pads, especially compared to my Novation Launchpad X.

This might be a winner as it's more powerful (CPU-wise) and I like the step-sequencer and built-in mic functionality. I might give this a try after a few years, when prices drop in the secondhand market and most launch issues are resolved.

And yes, like most here, I agree- the MPC is a resounding win over the Roland TR-1000 by a long shot.
