Do you remember when .dll files had to be registered using regsrv32? If it is a 64 bit OS, but a 32 bit .dll file; would it also need regsrv32 to register it? Otherwise it could be in the right place but still show missing.

 

Not really as some cedar plugins was available in some old Sadie cracks some 10-15 years ago

Temper expectations. It may not be a "popular" crowd pick. Just remember, r2r had a similar thing in 2020 and then the big gong was the less known MAAT plugins they were building up to. My guess, it's probably going to be something more less known

yesterday i kinda fooled chatgpt to help me get to the bottom of what releases could be... and i'mm more inclined to believe that uad and protools are possible. both their auth system use those dlls to call home and fooling them could have been achieved, plus adding what r2r did a couple years ago with the frankenstein protools that fooled pace and had a mixup (to some degree) of both free and premium versions

 

Maybe the Neural DSP plugs?
All of them and the Hardware emulated?

^ the homecalling you mention is not necessarily the important thing to even release some .dll files over. Releases get past that all the time.
If one of those dll files is what they used to call a com dll, it's because they need activity back and forth between the plugin and the software manager application or each other. Example, I can run UVI Falcon for months without opening my UVI manager software or even having it on the system. If UA Connect is able to update to a version Catalina cannot allow, all my UA plugins will immediately stop working after a reboot.
It has nothing to do with them calling home to UA directly, because neither the plugins nor UA Connect are allowed to do so either way. Once they are unable to communicate locally, they are dead.

A correctly configured firewall ruleset is not going to just let out traffic because that outbound solicitation begins with a dll file as source. Although it might with blind default "trust all factory processes" lazy configurations. Security software should still block something which is the result of XASS-style exploits, detect dll injection, legacy COM communications between components, and so on. Direct homecalling is not why you would need additional dlls just to block. Most people already block everything via firewall, or hosts; even when not recommended in installation instructions.

i didn't say homecalling tho. i was talking about that those dlls are part of the process that authorizes the plugin to work to begin... but not having it will kill them. so you fool the system, through said dlls, creating some kind of dummy server that will give a positive back to UA connect/Pace, which by consequence will approve that process. furthermore, i think there is a way that they can create said url to respond to the request, do not remember exactly what chat gpt responded (but it would be possible)
in the case of ua connect with updates, what i think that could have been done, in case they achieved, is something similar to what happened to audioutopia's ProTools, in which the pace licenser software gets 'stuck' in the modified version and a legit one get installed alongside it without override

i imagine this whole situation like what happened with the hacking of the xbox 360: the most famous one where they got the cd reader firmware that would let everything go through. in this case, the cd reader would be the dummy authentification side of the process that would allow the plugins to pass the process and launch

 

I personally think it's going to be UAD, but I would love to see VSL and Orchestral Tools.

VSL would just be nice to properly trial. I've heard good things about them, but not that interested in investing time and money into trying and learning new engine and potentially not even liking it.

And Orchestral Tools just got way too comfortable after they ditched Kontakt, still releasing unfinished buggy products and never going back to fix bugs in old ones. They are definitely in need of a shakeup.

Well, I can tell you for almost certain, it will not be PT, I just recently got a perpetual license, but wouldn't that be a pisser if it was, after I spent that money on it.....

 

Since UAD plugins have never been on the scene, I'm thinking that may be it

 

Uad is very cheap and doesn't fit the description r2r, although all badroom pirates would love to have it
