    Hi,

was wondering if there's a good delay plugin which ducks automatically when the vocal track plays and releases it's delays when the last word is said.
I know you can also automate the sends in your DAW for each last word but I saw a dynamic delay plug from AIR Digidesign who does this automatically for you. (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lDsAcHPn7TE)
Does this excist also for daw's like cubase? Or do I have to sidechain a delay to create this FX or automate?

    Thanks

This would be very useful indeed. Like the "Dynamic Delay" from TC Electronic, which is included in several of their hardware effects units.

    I also don't know a plug-in which does that.
I use Soundtoys Echoboy for delay, which can do almost anything, but lacks this feature, as far as I know.

Maybe a workaround could be, to put a compressor before the delay in the insert of an aux-track?
Have to try that out sometime.

Some sort of sidechaining-triggered effect maybe ?

Or just SC compress any delay you have/use (send to all wet delay, with vocal as key input). You can even SC gate for more control.
Owl City uses duck delay and duck reverb quite alot.

Just duplicate the vocal track and put the delay on that, then automate volume to come in when you want it to.

Good advice, but that should also work without duplicating the track.

Depends if sending to aux or wet/Dry knobs if available on delay if an insert. By duplicating track with delay as an insert, the duplicate will get the full signal no matter on how you automate (least this way no need to route or automate anything but the volume on the second track).

Now its sounding more complicated then it needs to be

How should that work? In this case you would also hear the duplicated track itself, which you don't want to.
You need to use the delay on an aux-channel anyway, or am I missing something?
And then automate the volume of the aux-channel...

No as it would be automated, thats the point in duplicating the track rather than having the deley on the original track. Its no different to using the aux you'll get the same result, there is no right or wrong way to do it.

Not being funny but didn't think that was hard to understand?

I thought this was also not hard to understand.

You asked me to explain my answer, even though you originally said it was good advice, but you didn't understand it anyway. You don't have to use the aux if you don't want to. Each to their own i guess.

You could probably do it on the track itself without duplicating or using the aux, it depends on the deley your using. If it has a wet/dry knob you could automate that but even then you might not get it right. If not I doubt automating the on/off button would work as the deley might not get the full signal that you want delayed at the time you turn it on and want it to come in. For me, duplicating the track, insert the delay and then bounce it to audio, would be the way I'd do it. Then you can easily place the delays anywhere you wish or even chop them up.

It was good advice, all I did was to mention, that there are (as always) more ways to do it.

My way would be, to put a delay in an insert of an aux-track, and automate the volume of the aux-track.
For me that would be clearer than to duplicate the track, but the result is the same.
