Reminds me of DocB's GeneticTerrain module in VCV Rack: https://library.vcvrack.com/dbRackModules/GeneticTerrain. (The thumbnail doesn't show what it looks like when the t1-t4 knobs have been adjusted to generate the terrain.) It definitely comes up with some nice tones and I'm sure Dawesome takes the concept to the next level!

Interesting, looks like they're scanning the wavetable not just along the normal X-Y but create a path also through the Z-plane (usually the "pos" parameter in WT synths). This should create some interesting waveshape movements, but I think it'll require a quite spesifically tuned wavetable library to work. Otherwise it'll probably sound very digitally squeaky and buzzy.

For these kinds of sounds I recommend trying out the "Jitter" wavetable scan mode in Massive X which does quite unusual sounds, going from weird ensemble like sounds to totally apeshit at extremes.

But yeah, I'll be on the lookout for this for sure, looks good!

There are probably a good number of effects on the sounds in the trailer. I do not expect it to sound this nice when it is just dry output from the synth. It's nice and clean, very modern; otherwise it does have some filtering that sounds reminiscent of an e-mu peak/shelf filter. Different, more clarity; but I do hear why you mention it. No matter what anyone might say, I will always take a trailer's sound with a grain of salt. My favorite from dawesome has been Hate, otherwise somewhat hit-or-miss for me. This one sounds good enough to demo it, definitely.

    Do you mean e-mu Z-Plane filters (Morpheus / Ultra Proteus / X3)?

Oh great, here we go again with another absolute monster waiting to get here! Looks like image to “wavetable” is the new trend this year, it’ll play very nicely with Exp Filtertable but GRRRRRRRRRR!!!!!!!!!!!!! I gotta wait till October!

Doesn't bother me that there are effects on the trailer, as most synths needs some sort of treatment/mixing to fit in a production.

Also, Dawesome synths have very good built in effects (even free ones like Zyklop), so I'm guessing a large part of the sound design functionality and versatility will be in part due to the great fx modules built into the new synth.

If you like Hate you should definitely try out Love. It has a great workflow and phenomenal effects compared to other granular effects processors I've tried.

Hey, here is Peter - aka Dawesome. I made the trailer with KONTRAST only, no other plugins. What you hear is the pure dry output of the synth, and I used only factory presets :)

The image you see is a wavetable, each column represents a normal slice in a traditional wavetable synth.
But who says a slice needs to be a straight line? There is only one straight line, but there are millions of other shapes.
So in KONTRAST you can modify the shape of the slice with a couple of sliders.
So instead of changing the wavetable (traditional method) you simply change the scanline.
And this works with any kind of wavetable - just that you will get much more sounds of your same old wavetables!

Actually ... to be honest ... if you watch the video carefully you will notice that most of the sound is from one preset called VOLTA DRIVE and me pressing one note down. That preset was done by Spektralisk and uses the build-in sequencer.

Hi Peter! thanks for stopping in here and giving us more info, the synth sounds great! Can you help me understand this please? Is the way the wavetable is scanned similar to Serum 2? If you use one of their new LFOs with the crazy shapes? I love your products btw, i own a handful of them and use them daily. Thank you!

It's one of the morphable presets in the samplers (on left). The behaviors also depend on the options you setup in Cords matrix; but it's probably the one I would start screwing with to get the similar effect in the trailers' synth patch with that nice sweep.

I own love, but seeing the effects sections gets me wondering if they’re putting algorithms from their other products in newer ones, like effects from Hate, Myth, Abyss, etc, they have similar spreads but utilize their effects differently because of the engines and oscillator types? Like now you can use the distortion from hate you recognize in Myth but you miss some of the reverbs, the plugins won’t have everything

In Serum 2 (and any other traditional wavetable synth) there is always a "slice" of audio - a straight line. You can move around this straight line, but it remains a straight line.

In KONTRAST the scanline can be bend, grow petals, spirals etc ... it can have a zillion different shapes.
This shape is scanned periodically with the frequency of the note, so this not LFO (low frequency oscillation), but it happens at audio-rate.

The engine that creates the shapes models an analog, nonlinear circuit - a living beast: it creates complex and interesting interactions and very organic sound.

If this sounds complicated to you: no worries. As soon as you try it out you will see its extremely intuitive!

Wish we could get a beta test demo to play with till the official release, I’m too excited to wait and I wouldn’t be surprised if many others are in this same position
