Do some research, it's all been said before on here, plenty of times... No reason for yet another thread on the same thing.

 

The videos seem to be legit. Does he own all of these? That's a lot of money.

 

Why anybody still believes that UAD is something special?
People still that stupid?
UAD plugins are very-very mediocre and make your mix sounds flat and lifeless, same as ALL digital plugins.
They were THE shit back in early 2000's because CPU's were weak and because they give you "zero latency".
That's it.

The thing is that if anyone looks on the UAD site, in the plugins, there is a toggle switch for all and native.
There are a pile of plugins that will not work without UAD hardware, so even if the video is true as I haven't watched it, without the UAD hardware nearly half would be completely useless.

 

This is true, UAD is nothing special. People will stop caring once it's cracked, just like they did with Acustica.

This is kinda true, though that doesn't stop top industry people from using them (and other old ass Waves plugins for that matter). Turns out it's all subjective in the end.

They range from just OK, to pretty good, plugins, but they are not magic.

Slightly confused there - they never gave you zero latency back "in early 2000s", in fact, just the opposite - because of the need for extra buffers to buffer the data from the DAW to the DSP hardware and back, they added a lot more latency than native plugins.

It was only when UA released Apollo interfaces (about ten years later) with inbuilt DSP that a low latency option was added, as the interface can process the audio data via the inbuilt DSP before it goes to the DAW.

I'll leave the subjective nature of 'quality' and whatnot up to everyone's own opinions and use case scenarios, but as someone who had both UAD1 and UAD2 cards, they certainly didn't work with zero latency at all.... it wasn't until, well, historically, as you well explained.

 

That video claimer is nothing but a bullshitter. Treat it as such...

That is what they CLAIMED it was supposed to do... In reality, a very different story all together... The natives (now) on the other hand will run as good as a host system (and its available resources) will allow as they are just another plugin that runs on regular system resources. The more system resources the more plugins you can run, which is true for stuff all across the board not just UAD. I still have the UAD1 around somewhere which is collecting dust after they basically shit-canned all support for it right out from under everyone. Those plugins are now termed (in corporate speak) "LEGACY" and not eligible for any upgrades to the natives or anything else period. So all that $$$ spent for those shitty UAD1 cards and the $$$ plugins that went with em are just money flushed down the toilet. I now await the cracking of the entire UA native line and will DL the whole crap ton of them if/when they become available. UA will never get 1 red cent from me ever again. FUCK em...

Some portion of the "magic" people ascribe to the UA dsp plugins comes from the actual interfaces. Most regular users wait until their current interface is either obsolete or entering the "repair stages" of one breaking or dying. A generation newer interface is usually a step up in quality/performance due to technical improvements, just like a new computer. UA's convertors are often a nice step up from most others' people "upgrade to UAD" from. Maybe they even change their sessions' samplerate.
