Oh yeah, forgot about Falcon. I don't like it tho, it feels like operating a machine with 9283492384 layers and 9238492348 expansion packs.

I am not a invested sound designer. More of a sound explorer and preset tweaker. And I always fall back to 'surge'. Its presets are way more versatile, covering all genre and usable compared to serum, pigment etc in my opinion.
'Knif Audio Knifonium' is another synth I discovered few months back. It fits right into my kind of music.

So many reactions to SQ8L I had to look it up!

I recently built a mini PC for 32-bit stuff to relive my teenage years, so it was the perfect opportunity to see what the fuss was about.

(This is Windows 7 32-bit skinned as Windows XP for full nostalgia)

I've been lost in this synth for an hour messing around with factory presets
    Thanks for sharing!

I'm quite a fan of Sylenth1, idk what it is, but it feels like home.
It was the first synth I actually took the time to sit down and learn

    Falcon is really impressive, yes.
UVI do an amazing job on capturing sound.
    Their samples are top.
Unlike a lot of Kontakt releases covering the same sounds, with "just above average" sound quality on samples.

Falcon replaced most Kontakt banks on my side.

But i still vote for KORG Modwave as my new innovative gem

GForce, Synapse Audio, and Arturia but not even Pigments. Used to use Zebra more, but doing more sample-based sound design to take its place.

Serum2. The plugin is 2 mb. Great new features and changes like sampler, Clips, Arp, midi files dragable to it, lightning speed preset management and searching, backward compatibility without the additional CPU use to run older patches. Because it can make nearly anything, it's also a great all around go-to synth for any general purpose sounds or building new sounds when you do not know what you want there yet. The CPU use is one of the only common, valid "complaints" people have; but it won't be in a couple of years. We used the last version for about 10 years and people were using V1 until the day v2 was released.

Thorn is such a crazy synth. severely underrated. Shit, even i left it out of my list, when it should have been in there. Its a somewhat unique, powerful little synth. A joy to program, simple, basically one page UI. I wish it had a few more oscillator types / waves, and a couple more modulators, but its still a fav of mine. I love cooking up glitchy arp's in it, but its excellent for pretty much everything electronic, even some "organic" sounds.

If I'm not reaching for Serum 2 (for leads and bass), I'll be reaching for one of the D16 synths/drum machines. Phoscyon 2, Drumazon 2, Nepheton 2. Sylenth or Dune for pads and atmos.

I spend more time in VCV lately though.

Thorn is indeed a sleeper synth with great sound. Unsure lacking modulation is an issue on many daws these days, I mean, we can just target any function from outside the plug with daw modulation, no? Works well here in Bitwig and they can't be the only ones doing it.
