Yes, I read it a few years ago, and Dahlke's claim that the symptoms of a disease always point to some kind of psychological conflict that is the true cause of the illness is not supported by any solid evidence.

This does not mean that psychosomatic illnesses don't exist - of course they do. Prolonged stress, for example, can clearly lead to biochemical changes and trigger disease. But not every illness contains a 'meaning' that needs to be uncovered, and even less can we assume that recognizing this supposed meaning or resolving the alleged psychological pattern will automatically lead to healing.
Statements like these, however, are commercially successful because people want to believe them and Dahlke knows it. They seem to offer a sense of control and purpose in the face of suffering. The idea that an illness is not random but instead a manifestation of an unresolved inner conflict suggests that we are not helpless but just neet to understand ourselves better.

This however leads to the belief that people are to blame for their own suffering. And when healing doesn’t occur, they might feel they’ve failed at some internal task. This perspective then causes guilt and even shame, especially for those struggling with chronic or incurable conditions. Go tell someone with a chronic disease like cancer, multiple sclerosis or migraine that they just need to resolve their inner conflict to heal. We as humans tend to search for a meaning, so Dahlkes theory of symbolic interpration of symptoms is appealing to our psychological structures, but thats all.
To have "Sincerity with oneself" as your quote says means also to realize that there are factors in this world that we have no controle of: genetic predispositions, environmental influences, infections, accidents, or simply bad luck to name a few. A single, overarching psychological explanation is insufficient to account for the complexity of most medical conditions and such explanations are a slap to the face of every serious chronic ill person.

And that's why saying to OP that to 85% it's a condition that is psychosomatic or that he/she needs to find the symbolic character of the illness and then get's healed could easily lead to prolonging of suffering or even worsening of the condition because those things that might help (for example getting an accurate diagnosis first of all and then an appropiate therapy) are not considered anymore.

im calling them idiots because they are directly causing a possible outright ban on a product that has helped get countless people off of opiates, and has helped many people navigate chronic pain, with very little side effects. The raw plant is safe and effective, but the idiots started synthesizing the active compound, making pure versions of it, pressing it into pills and selling it at smoke shops. Now its getting a crackdown.

I took @Stevie Dude 's advice to heart two years ago.

Two years later, I'm still addicted to kratom.

If you don't mind the more than occasional clogged toilet, it's not bad.

its important to remember people have unique biological make ups due to genetics and other shit, not that im an expert on this stuff at all. but be wary of peoples advice on the internet when it comes to anecdotal "well i did this and it worked for me!" type stories. it could very well of worked for them, and not work for you and vice versa.

i think its kinda funny this type of talk is allowed on the forum but not other things. like some bad advice on here could literally lead to someones health being affected negatively, but mention like a simple fact thats politically charged and its a no no

These type of threads usually dont end with everybody at each others throats. Additionally, for the most part, politics has nothing / very little to do with music, but health, especially mental health does. You can't create / work if you feel terrible or are mentally stuck. I think this sort of topic should be allowed in every forum, regardless of niche. This may be the only place where somebody can come to, and sometimes a person just needs to vent.

Mental health plays a fundamental role on the craft of music. Of course you shouldn't take drugs and treatment recommendations (it was highly advised by other folks BTW), but discussing and helping each other to feel listened and share experiences is a good and valid point. I see no harm on a thread like this. There are no doctors here, just music makers talking about a issue that is more than common. Talking about health should not be a taboo. Embrace it with responsibility.

I'm not OP (obviously) but as someone who struggles with anxiety, I’m really glad that most of the replies in this thread have been reasonable and considerate. Mental health is a complex and multilayered subject, and it deserves to be treated with the respect it warrants.

There are some great doctors who are qualified in both prescription medicine and natural medicine.
While that means nothing on the surface, I believe you might be more likely to receive sound logical advice at a treatment level rather than going straight for a chemical solution.

I only suggest this because prior to end last century, for thousands of years, humankind had no anti-depressant prescriptions and they managed to find reasonable solutions. Every person I have met who ended up on anti-depressants has never managed to get rid of them or had some unsavory side-effects. I am only saying that second and third opinions from medical professionals can never hurt.

My friend highly recommends to understand the real reason of all metabolic / neurologic diseases (he believes it's the only way to heal any metabolic desease (99% of all). You have to understand the role of toxicity of modern environment. It takes TIME and effort though (not just popping the pills). See this (basics):

    Than contact Garrett directly.
PS. The bad truth is: both sides - conventional and alternative medicine have false paradigm. So you can change so many MDs and naturopaths ("green" pharma is still pharma). So don't be scared, that what you'll learn is 80% assymetrical to what everyone is parroting. It's not advertisement or some scam. Actually I'm very surprised to see such a topic on audio forum. Good luck.

It’s better to consult a doctor who has a lot of experience.
    nowadays,
Second opinion or even a third opinion is a must.
Do not hesitate to do so.

Very much agreed. People who think most illnesses are psychosomatic have no idea the amount of harm that is caused from that sort of thinking.

People talk about bio-psycho-social, but always ignore the social and often the bio and blame everything on the psycho - because it's easier to blame the individual.

So many claims about psychosomatic illness are not science based and that goes doubly for the claims made in this thread.

Psychosomatic medicine and psychotherapy deals with the interrelationships between psychosocial and physical processes and their significance for human health and illness. It is a medical specialty with particular expertise in the recognition and (particularly psychotherapeutic) treatment of pathological disorders of physical and mental processes. When diagnosing your illness, our medical and psychological psychotherapists have the opportunity to draw on the expertise of physicians from a wide range of disciplines and the full range of diagnostic tools available at a modern university hospital.

Psychological diagnostic testing helps analyze important psychological functions such as perception, concentration, memory, and motor skills.
Careful identification of the illness and detailed consultation on treatment options enable our patients to better accept their illness and make informed treatment decisions. In order to utilize the patient's personal and social resources for the healing process, it is important for us to learn not only how ill you are, but also how healthy you are!

Psychosomatic treatment is something completely different than saying that almost all illnesses have only psychosomatic causes.
Apart from the fact that your linked illnesses only include mental illnesses - and not even for them there is said that they are fully psychosomatic.

So you're just saying that psychosomatic treatments improve the course of the disease, but nobody here has ever denied that.
But the factors that cause disease include more than just the inner psychological attitude; as already mentioned, they include genetic factors, accidents, random biochemical processes, basically all biophysical factors that are independent of the 'mind' or 'psyche'.

You have enormous courage to publicly be so up-front and honest about it, and it is a credit to you. As such, that courage I believe will aid you in finding a solution that works for you. :mates:

oh boy. it's not that bad isn't it ? no ?

Kratom. The "tea" extracted from its leaves isn't all that rare here. I have a close friend who invested in and grows a few acres of it, so the supply is pretty much unlimited for maybe 50 years. It's also incredibly cheap. 1kg of the leaves is just around USD4 (that's the friend and family price, of course). And since 1 kg is enough for a month (for me at least), yeah, it's super cheap.

I boiled it with 10 liters of water for 2 hours or so, strained and got around 7-8 liters of it, then keep it in the refrigerator.

I think for people in the West, the exported kratom is typically dried leaves that are then processed into powder. This is likely because, just like any other leaves, fresh leaves would spoil within a week. The powder is then often made into hot drinks, and perhaps strained to get the pure extracted liquid without the sediment. I drink it with black coffee, 3:1 ratio in the morning. 3 is the coffee. Mixed with orange juice or something on the evening and it helps me sleep better.

A reminder, as much as it's a highly functional organic drug, it's highly addictive, of course. While the withdrawal is crazy, it'll be clear out of your system in less than a week. But those first 3 days are hell, at least that's what I felt when I was short on supply when I forgot to bring along some traveling.

For people in the South America, I think they have something like this called "Mate" or something.

what ? people always find a way to ruin something. Not interested in that. Just using it the traditional way.
