Hi friends,

I have a problem. When I try to add a .serum pack file, I get an error message. The message says:
... SERUMPACK.json

I downloaded this soundbank(KULTURE - Serum 2 Drum & Bass Presets Vol. 1) I tried opening the DAW once normally and once in administrator mode, but I get the same error message both times. I'm using Serum version 2.0.20. VR

What should I do to get it added, or what’s the problem? Can anyone guide me?

 

It should import with just the .serumpack file loaded into Serum from the Menu dropdown by the main volume knob. Import Preset Pack.

If that doesn't work, try importing a different pack. If a different pack doesn't work also, you know it is either permissions related like you already suspected, the directory structure, or your install of Serum. That pack is not the problem.

 

perhaps your directory path is tooo long..try shorten the name.

 

Rename the sound set; it shouldn't contain any special characters like brackets, periods ( ).& :, etc.
And, as my previous speaker @ijah Tafari already said, avoid using long file names. Example: Kulture Drum and Bass

 

The screenshot almost looks like it has an extra space after the first backslash. It is like \Kulture_\ with the underscore I added to show it, being an extra space. It doesn't care on Mac, but that space does exsist in the original folder name.

I wish sometimes that every Serum presets maker would stop putting Serum in the title. We know what synth they are for.

 

Yes. Some preset makers make the names so long.

I made the file name smaller and it still gave the same error
I wrote the name as: Kulture Drum and Bass.SerumPack
But it gives the exact same error message

 

It's a long name with an extra space to be sure, but I was skeptical changing it would fix it. I did not fix the space or shorten the name at all and it works fine in legit Serum on Mac. That's why I suggested the other things to try. Every update version that is released could possibly have new checks, action-based timebombs, gui melts, and who knows what else.

You could try manually creating that .json file, it is just a hidden text file saved with the .json file extension. This is the only text in the file below, add it and save as the correctly named .json. But it is supposed to be created during the import process, which is why I mentioned checking the permissions for the directory and the ones below it. It's why I menetioned trying with another pack. That pack works as a .serumpack, but I was also able to extract it using Keka; which is just a Mac archive tool like Winrar. It creates the 3 folders (presets, noises, and tables) which are contained in any other older serum presets pack format. You just have to then manually place the files in the right places.

Import doesn't work !!!

Please put the folder:

KULTURE - Serum 2 Drum & Bass Presets (Vol. 1)

into the User Preset Folder:

C:\Users\YourName\Documents\Xfer\Serum 2 Presets\Presets

The Use the Rescan from the menu!

It works!!!

 

When I acquired this preset collection, I just placed it in the Serum 2 presets folder like any other. I don't remember seeing a "serumpack" at all.

 

just rename the folder where the .SerumPack is in..and make it a normal name: dont name that folder .serumpack.
inhere evrything works well.

 

That's not quite right, you can't rename the ending:

i understand..was just trying to say that he shouldnt call the folder with and extension at the end

 

@Tony, There is a .serumpack file in that release, but maybe that depends how you got it. @ijah Tafari, Serum doesn't seem to care about length of the pack titles, but it's what I do with almost every one of them anyway. They are either too many characters to look normal in your Serum menu, say "Serum" in the titles which no official content for any plugin would ever look like, or they do not even contain the name of the label/producer/title; which makes any real organization just as bad.

But it still gave the same error
I even deleted and re-added another bank, it added it easily (STANDALONE-MUSIC-TALES_2_by_7_SKIES) and had no problems

I even changed the product version name to 2.0.20 once, and it still didn't work.

 

This method didn't work either.

 

Did you install this sound bank? And did you have any problems?

 

Both ways, as a pack and old style preset method so you can see. Did you check the site where you got the VR version you are using for possible comments about this?

C:\Users\YourName\Documents\Xfer\Serum 2 Presets\Presets

Then Use the Rescan from the menu!

 

Ah, now I understand what you mean
I know how to manually copy the individual presets
But my problem is with this method of importing preset packs
