I'm looking for an ekit like alesis dm10 studio kit but with silent pads

For example, this one is too noisy for me:

    Any suggestions?

    Thanks in advance

    Please help!

Now I am not a drummer nor know much about these, but I am a mechanical engineering student.
The act of striking a rigid object emits sound - even my fingers on MPC pads make a significant amount of noise.

To reduce the sound caused by striking, you need to increase the force to contact time ratio aka impulse. to do that you would need the drums to be made of a softer material with dampening characteristics. By using a softer material you lose the bounce back reaction force which I imagine is important for drummers wanting an authentic drum feel.

    Thats just a physics nerd's 2 cents.

Mesh heads : more feel, more noise
Rubber heads : less feel, less noise
BUT those differences are NOT so obvious.

You see mesh heads on your video. You may think you want rubber heads ? But not, because you will loose more feel than noise.

So stick with mesh heads and noise.
Whatever you think, it is IMPOSSIBLE to play drums totally quietly late at night in a non-treated room.
You will still get that "guy hitting cardboards" sound.

If you want totally silent result, i only see Air Drums
And even then, you may wake up ppl next room by hitting the floor.

Those are the only solutions you will get at the end of every research process :mates:
The only dead silent drums late at night are headphones+virtual drums

    I remembered this with aerodrums:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6Sf_pogZ8jE

Ok but those aero drums have the same "feel" or "touch response" like an ekit? did you try it?
Should I choose an alesis dm10? studio kit (feel+noise, as you said) or what is the best mesh head edrum?

I'm not even a drummer
I'm just bringing the usual solutions for usual problems

There is no force return from any air drums, of course.
As far as mesh heads go, Roland ones are considered the best "one size fits all" solution. But more pricier than Alesis

About noise, as i already said, you will not notice a big difference between mesh and rubber. But a lot of feel difference

That's what most drummers will tell you. Now i will let real drummers give their vision :mates:
PS check my previous link for "snare feel" : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=iF8296Aai9k&feature=youtu.be

So aerodrums detects the velocity of the snare and uses that to choose appropiate samples/volumes from my software/daw, right?

I use an Ashton UVX (extended) e-drum kit. It has rubber pads. It's not very loud when you hit them and you can't hear them at all with a good pair of headphones.

Like someone said, depending on how you hit something, you'll always hear it.

    Good luck mate.

Although I'm a fan of mesh heads, the best rather quiet pads I have yet played are the current Yamaha rubber pads. They feel surprisingly good, much better than older rubber pads, and IMHO they're a good compromise between response and noise.
Mesh heads are only silent if they have little tension, but to get a good playing feel, they need to have high tension.
