Maybe you've posted the wrong link, it goes to a youtube channel with 1.77k subscribers and perhaps 40,000 views.

what if you cant afford the best ones?

then you are stuck with what you have - correct? :dunno:

Something what often is overlooked: Better monitoring can not often make your music/mixdown better ...

There are clear evidences that a listening environment with certain standards raise the potential of a tonally more pleasant listening experience of the resulting material - independent of the consumers listening environment.

Yes, one has to adjust to his budget and one can of course also equalize what he already has.

People should just care about the evidently relevant things. Due to my observation, rejecting this results in their problems in terms of audio processing, which one can see here all the time over and over again.

I mostly work on headphones as it's a controlled environment, but I do check some spatial stuff on speakers. If I was a professional musician I would be using pro mixers and mastering engineers, and I'd probably be recording in a proper studio as well.

i struggled with this question for too long. settled with beyer 770 250 ohm and for the headphone amp, a great big flea market yamaha natural sound AV receiver thats 20+ years old. (i had to replace the headphone amp's caps on it but i digress). if i can't hear what i need to hear with them, then there's no reason to worry about such things.

Here's the correction curve after applying EQ. It's rated 100/100 on the Oratory1990 web page. This is for the Producer Pads which are far more comfortable than the Mix Pads.

Good headphones for recording and production, but not so great for mixing. Try and get some decent open-back cans further down the road if you can.

Honestly I think that having good monitoring is the most important thing (gear-wise) for mixing/mastering. I'd take good monitoring with free software ANY day over shitty monitoring with unlimited plugin budget. It's like asking photo and video guys to color grade their images on a monitor that isn't color accurate. They would all be like "NO". You can sort of get used to the colors of your screen by watching a lot of movies on it, but it will never be the same as having a good screen from the beginning. Same thing for audio.

Good monitoring doesn't have to be expensive. Kiwi Ears Cadenza are 40€ and Truthear x Crinacle Zero Red are 70€, both are fantastic choices for monitoring on a budget, and are easy to correct to the ideal. Combine this with a regular, decent pair of speaker, room correction software, and you have no more excuses.

That's why I EQ my headphones to a known target and I use that as a baseline, then I listened to a lot of different types of music over many months to learn the sound, so I think my brain is fairly well calibrated now :) I'd like to calibrate my speakers too, but that's a bit more tricky at the moment.

Sonarworks or ARC wouldn't be good enough ? I mean, a correctly done manual calibration is always better, but from my experience, automatic room correction software can get 80% of the way there.

It's just a very bad room, and that's why I focussed on getting an accurate headphone sound.

I tried Sony MDR 7506 and hated them, barely had them on for half an hour, but i still think everyone needs to figure out themselves and compare and not just read opinions and purcashe.. specially if doing mixing and audio other than fiddling around. In my case, i have some tratment but my ceelings are slanted and the mono cube helps alot...

But "Andrew Scheps swears by them". Yup, and Paul McCartney cannot read sheet music. Because that's how good they really are.

Not saying that's your case, but the biggest mistake I see people making when mixing with headphones is actually buying stuff because someone uses it, it's endorsed by someone, or it's "for studio use". I keep seeing people get the wrong lesson for headphones. Good for you for trying them and deciding they're not for you. Mixing with headphones is more about enjoying what you hear than everything else.

In Scheps case, the reason he likes the Sony is because they're fairly cheap, they've been around for a long time and they're easy to replace. His words, but I can't remember exactly where I saw it.

I was looking for that unicorn equipment that will replace mixing decisions and do the work themselves. Andrew S. is cool, logical and practical, but ears are ears, we are so different.

Unfortunately old Senn PX100 are unobtainable nowdays and mine finnaly gave up, but those were mixing heaven for me.

I've spent thousands of dollars in audio equipment in your price range, this is the best you can get for that price if you're looking for a clinical sound:

    Heapdhones: Sennheiser HD 490 Pro/600
    Audio Interface: Audient iD14/24
    Speakers: Yamaha HS8
