Question Regarding Instrument Title Dividers.

Hello All. Apologizing in advance as I know that this is posted somewhere and I should be able to find it but cannot. I have a bunch of libraries that I am able to organize using KLU. However, I remember a post regarding how to make instrument title divider wallpapers. That is, for all of your basses, for example, you could insert a wallpaper title "Basses" above those basses; "Guitars" above all the guitar libraries and so on. So, in the attached screenshot, I would like to insert a wallpaper at the top that says something like "Ambient Dub IDM" to signal all the libraries below that wallpaper fall into that category.

Can this be done when looking at wallpaper views or only in Quick Load or some other functionality? The person who was posting about this actually posted some sample wallpapers for various instruments. I can't recall whether this involved making a fake library and naming a .nicnt accordingly or some other process. If you could point me to the post or give me directions/advice on how to do this, I'd very much appreciate it. Like the below. Many thanks in advance for any advice you could give.

Yes, you have to create a new library.
1/ Create a folder (for example "Ambient Dub IDM")
2/ Copy any "NICNT" file from another library into it.

 

3/ Rename NICNT to "Ambient Dub IDM.INCNT"
4/ Open it in Notepad and Rename all the original names inside the NICNT file to "Ambient Dub IDM"

 

5/ edit the three-digit number <SNPID>4f8</SNPID> (remember that it must be unique!! - it must not have the same number as any other original library - otherwise the original one will stop working in contact!!!)

 

6/ Save

 

7/ Create or copy to the folder "wallpaper.png"
8/ Load the library using "Add Library"
9/ Copy all the libraries that you want to have in "Ambient Dub IDM" into it.

Done

 

To avoid using some SNPIDs more than once, you can use, for example, NICNT GENERATOR, or like me, have an EXCEL file where I write down all libraries and their SNPID numbers ...

There are also a lot of useful programs:
Doubley - Custom Kontakt Library, Libdropper (custom made libs), SnpidLocator, MINI-NICNT, etc.

CDK - Thank you very much for the detailed response. I actually knew how to make .nicnt files manually using Notepad (I can't get the NICNT Creator program to ever work for me), but your tutorial is the most detailed I've seen and should help many more users besides me. Thanks for that. So now I just need a folder and in it a .nicnt file and wallpaper. I am useless when it comes to stuff like making wallpapers - I've tried, believe me, but now can be on the hunt for the instrument-specific wallpapers. If I can't locate genre specific wallpapers (Ambient Dub IDM is a bit esoteric or "Destroyed Techno" or "Ambient") then I will settle for "Drums", "Guitars", "Pianos", "Synths", "Basses", "Horns" etc. I know they are out there and will explore the links you posted. Thanks again for taking the time to help me - you are such a great asset to this community and I really appreciate it. D.

 

I'm on a Mac. I see Doubley on the sister site dating back to 2013 - although I don't need the latest and greatest - just something that works. Can you recommend a Mac version that is simple and easy to use for total wallpaper noobs like me? If it's available on a site like the sister site, even better.

I don't actually use any applications at all, so I won't recommend any version to you
As I wrote, I have my own SNPID list (a list of all the libraries I have) ...
I can easily check there if SNPID is already used somewhere.
If you want, I can share the current version somewhere.

You were fantastic. Thanks for your help. I'm all set for SNPIDs. I'm just looking for an OSX app that might make generating wallpapers easy. I'll let you know if I find anything. And thanks again!

 

I'm only, like, six years late to this post, but am very interested in using your process. Can you share the name of the program you use to edit the wallpapers? I'm on a mac and wondering if you just used Paint or there is some other wallpaper-specific app that you used. Thanks in advance. And, by the way, they look sick.
