LOL you are suppossed to encourage me to stop. You're right, I know nearly every plugin. However, their use and purpose not always sure. You're right, I returned to a treasure trove of goodies for sure. If I could stop downloading Kontakt libraries I think I'd be good. I mean who needs 10x orchesrtral strings, chiors, brass etc. apparently I do LOL

I was away from music nearly 20 years so when I came back I just started downloading everything. I used to have FL studio 7 and I left the internet around FL 8 or 9, I come back and it's Fl 24 and now 25. They have so many DAWs now, I remember when people used Propellerheads Rebirth and Refills lol. I also used to have 56k back then and the first dsl. Speeds are crazy now, you used to have to wait days to download whole albums and movies. If you were to try to download a 30gb library on dsl or simple cable it would take weeks, can't even imagine how monnths it would take on 56k lol

I used to have Kontakt, and one day I bought the UVI Falcon to replace Kontakt. I deleted Kontakt, and then years later, I had so many plugins that I started deleting sound banks. When my greed died, I had collected and tested everything, and knew almost everything, I became free and didn't need anything else except a few updates to fix the bugs. You're young, I'm old.

You can't fool yourself, @scguy83, what I wrote is based on my own experience and wisdom. You'll see, life goes by very quickly. I've been doing this since 2012 and have burned almost everything onto CDs, DVDs, and Blu-rays. I have a small library, you could say. I also had real instruments at home, several synthesizers, guitars, and amplifiers.

I sold almost everything. Back then, it was unpredictable how plug-ins would develop. You never knew if the internet would shut down, so you collected everything you could find. The quality of most plugins wasn't that great; it wasn't until the invention of faster CPUs and RAM that better sound became possible.

Back then, I even listed and printed out all my plugins. At some point, the amount of data became unmanageable. I couldn't keep up. Cold turkey, 1 day without internet, 2 days without internet, 3 days without internet....!

Addiction is curable. However, giving up the drug is not easy and requires a strong will, a lot of patience, and often targeted support.

Without insight, there's no improvement. You can go to the whale and think about everything you already have, where you're headed, and why you can't change. You are the captain of your ship. Think more...!

Dear folks, just a small update... 6000 plugins and about 3100 kontakt libraries (yeah I'm just an amateur)...
But in the meantime I'm thinking about to start collecting DAWs

Meh, that doesn't add up significantly. You now have 9100 items, you certainly will not reach 9200 by far....:winker:

well about plugins it would be enough to reinstall a brand that I discarded already... about K libraries, it's far easier, I think I could reach 5k within few days but for the moment I'm ok :bleh:
    :excl:for the moment :excl:

You definitely speak from experience for sure, lots of knowledge and time in the game. Oh lord don;t get me started on colecting hardware synths. Most VSTs are just like the hardware now though, same banks, adjustments, presets and all.

I have Falcon too and too many libraries on there too I want to delete some but I don't know what to delete. I wish it was end all be all type list. "you need this, this and this, and thats it" "this is the best reverb, best tape simulation, best drum machine, best saturation, best compression, best distortion" "these are the ONLY kontakt libraries you need" "these 3 are the best synths you don't need anymore". It would a lot more simple for sure. However, "the best' is always subjective.

That's for damn sure about the internet, we didn't know the future of it. I remember people used to call me a computer nerd geek.. well now the entire world is lol, I was just one of the first few of a hundred thosudand probably. I'm 42 and I first got online at 13. Do you remember how crazy you would go when the whole entire server and nearly all the internet was down? LOL.. it would piss you off so bad hearing the dilaing and connecting sound and never connect , I used to hear that sound in my sleep. Losing a modem in storm.. these kids will never know the pain LOL.

I don't think it's an addiction per say, it's more of a curiousity and things I missed that are new to me that you guys have been using forever. It's just that curiousity seems to never end. Like I got to try this, oh wow reviews on this are great lets try that, many 100+ people donwloaded that on audioZ it must be great software or one bad ass library!

I'm sure I have enough as it is, but we can never enough and be complete as humans.. always the need for wanting more

I'll try to explain it differently, how I see it; maybe one thing or another can help you.

It's an addiction. You're addicted, and that doesn't mean you're truly free. It's a bad habit you've developed, and these bad habits (watching TV, eating the wrong foods, smoking, alcohol, internet, downloading, etc.) are very easy to form, but very difficult to break.

You recognize an addiction when you want to quit, but the inner urge to continue and fill your hard drive with Kontakt libraries is stronger than you are.Well, you have to have insight, otherwise no change is possible, or the problem has to become so big that you suffer.

Don't be a slave to your desires. One of the Cracker Teams once wrote: Stop collecting so much and make more music. This digital age and endless human creativity collide with a finite life. This means our time is limited, our day only has 24 hours, and we spend a third of it asleep.

What do we actually want, what goals do we have, and what are we doing to achieve them? Or have we already lost our way and are victims of the enormous amounts of data and information overload?

I understand you well. Curiosity and the urge to play are innate in us, but the benchmark is how much the brain can process. And if we're drowning in plugins, sound libraries, and samples, we should start saving these treasures and storing them securely.

We should build a system that's clear, where presets and samples are easy to find, and offers a great workflow. The result should then be a satisfied and stress-free user, and the music output should increase. Then the newly created music should reach the world's population so others can hear it.
