If you've ever looked at galaxies and solar systems, there's always a star in the middle with several planets orbiting it. These planets get their energy from their stars. Without that star, the planets wouldn't heat up or move much. It is always the stars that provide the energy for life. Suppose there were a time when the sun did not exist, would there be life?
When stars die, life ends. It's the same in the world of music. It was the stars who brought music to this point. And then we destroyed those stars with our own hands. We now live in a normalized world where no stars emerge and everyone is becoming alike. Gold is a rare element but soil is everywhere. It is true that soil is more important to humans than gold, but gold is more brilliant and beautiful than soil. With the current circumstances we are moving forward with, the future age will become the dust age.

The question I ask myself is: Will we learn from our mistakes? We could very well start again with the Beatles or Italo Disco, but with a modern, adjusted tempo. Maybe we should mothball the Kick DRM and replace it with a conga, etc.

I think it only takes intelligence and creativity to use what we have and improve it with the latest plugins and ideas, or perhaps create something new. The way things are now, it's a dead end for many. As long as people keep paying for this junk music, nothing will change, but I'll continue for myself and stay true to myself.

At the moment, I only listen to "old" music. I think people will eventually get fed up and sit down and ask intelligent and wise people how to get out of this dilemma. Perhaps AI will have to finish off the masses first, true to the motto: things have to get worse before they get better. I think people long for beautiful music and that's why it won't die.

Hmm, you sound like all the like-minded ignoramus here who feel music came to a standstill when they reached the ripe ol’ age of 30, or less.

Answer me this, did your parents feel the same about your generation’s music? as their parents did before them und so on. There’s your answer then, they were wrong then, same as you and et al here are wrong today.

It’s called, ‘The generation gap’, only for some, it’s a seems to be huge fearsome chasm to cross.

It’s futile for folk who don’t listen to current trends in music, to spout a completely nonsensical, derogatory opinion of it.

So, the facts, not an opinion, I was releasing vinyl all thru 90’s, one review said, ‘Experimental & successful’, still releasing to dis day too, one review in 2025 stated, 'Full of surprises. Blend of various production styles and sub genres bound into a music experience I've not heard for a while. Unusually UNIQUE.' I get lots of unique or similar, etc.

You may be right about the underground though, not much diversity there, but my stuff gets played in commercial clubs, not underground, nevertheless there’s more innovation in my stuff than there is the underground.

To all the ol’ fogies here und elsewhere, I’ll proffer this, there is such a beast as a young fogey, so change could be wrought fairly easily if you had a mind to change your, narrow-minded, outdated mindset.

I dunno, pretending you're still young and cutting edge is way more embarrassing than going all Beato. I listen to a lot of new electronic music and make techno, which apparently is still quite a popular genre with young people ;) I have an ok view of the current landscape.

Im simply talking about innovation defining a golden age, not output. I'd say were in the silver age, dance is big and has matured, but its pretty commercial and safe now.

I checked your stuff, its a nice indie rave blend, but again, all its ideas are 30 years old - which frankly is most good music these days. So many great ideas appeared in the 90's why ignore them.

I'm with both of you in this discussion.

The digital turning point in music eras is real. It is enormous how deep you can dive into all kinds of music styles. This era to me seems way to eclectic to call it "golden age of jazz/rock/hip hop/dance" or something like this.

People making this a foster kind of thread by just blindly hating on everything contemporary is somehow weird. Calling out and cry about the decline of music culture, while being ignorant towards newer music feels paradox to me. Maybe you are part of this decline, don't supporting newer talented acts. These newer acts are more in need of support than The Rolling Stones or LL Cool J, don't you think?

I also can't see why so many people think there is no innovation in todays music. I'm not sure, if I want the controversy of naming newer artists here... but I can't resist to take Mk.Gee as an example here. You don't have to like his music, but at least you have to admit that his production style is somehow innovative. There is no soul/rnb/rock-name-it-whatever-you-want music album from the 60s/70s sounding like this.

Even the almost classical hating on autotune/trap-things is ignoring the innovative aspect of this kind of sound, some teenage guys like Yung Lean uploaded on soundcloud back in the day. Yung Lean is my second example of an innovative contemporary artist. It is very easy to dislike his music, I have no concern with that, but you can't deny him or Mk.Gee or countless other of todays artist did not "go the extra mile" somebody mentioned. Shit, you can't even say that about Taylor Swift - seems to be a workaholic kind of life she has.

Hello @9ty, thank you for your detailed post and your perspective. I really read your article and can relate to everything. But excuse me, I can't listen to or tolerate this kind of music; I don't like it. I've tried several times to find something good in it, but I haven't succeeded.

    Yung Lean - Kyoto

I've attached a video by deine Lakaien, which I find very innovative and creative!

I dunno too man. The 90's was 30 years ago?

Wot is it exactly, that qualifies one individual to judge another individuals Art fairly squarely und accurately I wonder eh.

A recent DJ review stated, 'Perfect blend of past present future,' so, it can't be both, I wonder which one of you is the expert eh. I know 'oo my money's on.

Mate, no one is correct, its just personal taste.

'my club promo recently suggested i drop the 90's production style'

from London were they? That city is a dead man walking. Do your thing, your way, don't listen to ghosts.

I didn't claim there's a counterpart; I just wanted to express what I consider innovative. Everyone should listen to what they like, and of course, I respect other musical tastes. The world of music is as diverse as nature and humanity.

:like: That is totally understandable to me ... in fact I choose Yung Lean because to me he embodies so much qualities people hate about todays music: autotune, the guy cannot even sing in tune with autotune :winker:, the beats sound quite generic on the surface. But at the same time he has so many facettes if you look at his whole artistic output. Many artists call him an influence. Again, I can totally understand why many people can't connect to his music or even find it intolerable. Maybe as some salt in your wounds you should listen to his other moniker jonatan leandoer96 if you are brave enough ;)

P.S. I wasn't aware Deine Lakaien are still active. During the metal phase in my youth I went to a small club in my town which played music like Deine Lakaien ... the evening was a desaster: more than one person was commenting on my appearance which seemed to "normal" for the people there. Somehow elitist.

I listened to the track. Not my cup of tea on the first listen, but it didn't bother me either. Innovative? Perhaps, I don't know. Maybe even the category innovation is highly subjective.

Ah, this is what I get for skimming. I didn't realize the fuller context of it being a specific retort and took it as a full on nostalgia moment. Well, at least now some reader may learn that psychedelic black metal and kenny g shredding are a thing.

The video, the guy, the singing, the lyrics...it's all a total disaster (in my opinion)! I take a look at the antisocial media, where people rant and rave about each other every day, with abysmal educational levels, hairstyles, and clothes, well...!
Deine Lakaien = Ernst Horn and Alexander Veljanov spend two years in the studio and two years on tour.

At that time, Ernst Horn was Kapellmeister at the Badisches Staatstheater in Karlsruhe and a theater pianist and composer at the Bayerische Staatsschauspiel in Munich. He focused primarily on 20th-century avant-garde music. Alexander Veljanov, a native of Macedonia, studied theater and film studies in Munich in 1985. He was part of the gothic scene and was primarily interested in dark wave.

You think I'm kidding. I know what you're going to write at the end.
Once upon a time, music production centers were large studios with a number of experienced and fully professional people. Stars grew up in these studios and were supported by various artistic and technical factors and big capitalists. But later these studios disappeared and were replaced by personal studios inside homes. Personal studios may be able to provide the necessary equipment, but one very decisive factor in home studios is usually absent. That absent factor is the artistic talent and the fully skilled production staff. It may be possible to create very grand studios by downloading expensive plugins or buying very fancy tools, but great people with very creative artistic ideas cannot appear in these studios by reading the Word or asking the genie of the magic lamp. High art belonged to the artistic stars who were once the stars of the music world, and after them everything became ordinary. But unfortunately, jealousy prevents people from understanding what I'm saying.

People need to peep your insight, it shouldn't be overlooked.
Allow me to add a foundation that predates your epiphany. :chilling:

    "Mrs. French's cat is missing.
The signs are posted all over town.
    "Have you seen Honey?"
We've all seen the posters, but nobody has seen Honey the cat.
    Nobody.
Until last Thursday morning, when Miss Colette Piscine swerved her car to miss Honey the cat as she drove across a bridge. Well this bridge, now slightly damaged, is a bit of a local treasure and even has its own fancy name; Pont de Flaque.
Now Collette, that sounds like Culotte.
    That's Panty in French.
    And Piscine means Pool.
    Panty pool.
Flaque also means pool in French, so Colete Piscine, in French Panty Pool, drives over the Pont de Flaque, the Pont de Pool if you will, to avoid hitting Mrs. French's cat that has been missing in Pontypool.
    Pontypool.
    Pontypool.
    Panty pool.
    Pont de Flaque.
    What does it mean?
Well, Norman Mailer, he had an interesting theory that he used to explain the strange coincidences in the aftermath of the JFK assassination. In the wake of huge events, after them and before them, physical details they spasm for a moment; they sort of unlock and when they come back into focus they suddenly coincide in a weird way.
Street names and birthdates and middle names, all kind of superfluous things appear related to each other.
It's a ripple effect. So, what does it mean?
Well... it means something's going to happen.
    Something big.
But then, something's always about to happen."

There is some great music out there in all genres and styles. Genres in many ways comes from the word 'Generations'.
Genre is any style or form of communication in any mode with socially agreed-upon conventions developed over time. In popular usage, it normally describes a category of literature, music, or other forms of art or entertainment, based on some set of stylistic criteria, as in literary genres, film genres, music genres, comics genres, etc. Often, works fit into multiple genres by way of borrowing and recombining these conventions.

To improve any style requires searching and encouraging others in their discipline to step outside the square and create something new. Regurgitating older music has been called 'RETRO' and other labels, and it has its place. A good piece of music or art is just that. I see no point crapping on anyone just because their preferences do not meet with someone else's. That shows a spectacular lack of vision, lack of real skills and an absolute lack of musical maturity, but definitely shows loads of hubris and megalomania.

Art belongs to humanity, not just those who can afford it. Since the Medici, the rich have funded artists because they lack any artistic talent themselves. It's why they collect art and never create it.

The problem with your posts about this subject; is you are neither rich, nor artistically talented. Hence your jealousy and wasting of other peoples time with your worthless drivel. The things you post over and over are not things about others; they are projections about the things you hate most about yourself. You'll get no arguments from anyone about them. Your suspicions are correct. You are a waste of text.
