learning never ends, so i am wondering how do you balance learning vs creating?

what's the actual question? this is so vague?
you learn by creating (and in doing so, by making mistakes)

 

I try to solve it playfully. It's best to do it like children do. Don't under-challenge them, and don't over-challenge them. You should take breaks; what children learn is incorporated into their brains, for example, through play. So children need to play. What do we learn from this?

When I taught myself sound design, I studied, read, applied, and practiced a chapter every day. Above all, you should practice difficult things. Once you've done it 1,000 times (although this number is only a guideline), it's hardwired into your brain and permanently available. Read up or look something up if you don't know something.

Creative breaks can work wonders; anything that involves pressure quickly turns into stress and dissatisfaction. You have to enjoy or love what you do, then you'll be successful, even if you have the talent.

Sometimes you have to force yourself when you have a difficult problem that needs solving; it won't leave you alone until it's solved. The rule of thumb is "Problems must be solved!" I've spent many nights brooding over things, and then I've gotten up in the middle of the night and solved the problem. Afterward, sleep returned, and peace reigned.

Often you can see the result visually, but the road to it is rocky. However, without hard work and luck, nothing new or valuable can happen. You have to organize the hard work in such a way that you don't lose the fun and stress yourself out. Workflow—you have to figure that out for yourself.

At work/employment, if you don't perform to your full potential and show up on time every day, you'll lose your job.
Unpleasant things then become torture, and you look at the clock to see when it's finally time to quit and when you'll literally be relieved. In short, your power and energy are also limited, and there are only 24 hours in a day, of which you spend one-third sleeping.

Get enough sleep, exercise regularly, and drink enough water. Stay away from too much coffee, energy drinks, and sugar. Unfortunately, there's no one-size-fits-all solution; everyone is different.

 

You learn while creating, that’s it.

I wanted to be a songwriter I managed that immediately, along the way I became an engineer and a producer.

There is only one thing that matters when writing music, wether it’s Beethoven, The Beatles or me or you and that is the intervals, period, end of.

All intervals are not equal in what they bring to a composition, you must be able to distinguish the consonants from the dissonances, when and why is it more appropriate to use one interval in favour of another. Your ears will reveal all you need to know.

This is the crux of songwriting and should be realised immediately.

Everything else needed to produce a finished product, can be paid for, engineer, producer, musician etc, but you can’t buy quality voice leading.

Those of us who’ve listened to music since youth are already primed with an excellent understanding of intervals, the harmony. So put simply, in a way, I’m just subconsciously trying to create something I’ve heard before that sounded great to me.


I found a keyboard was the er, key to writing, never managed it on a guitar, found keyboard more logical and easier to find/see the right note, er, interval then.

I can easily write on a guitar now due to the complete understanding of harmony I gained while creatively learning.


Things to worry about later are, the sounds you are using, could they be more appropriate, better, stronger, maybe, if not, try some effects on them, still no, look for another sound.


I intend, eventually, to do some vids explaining in simple no uncertain terms, everything you need to know and be able to do, to become a prolific, fully-fledged, self-sufficient songwriter producer, from basic, then advanced keyboard playing, thru understanding harmony to writing und arrangeing a finished song.

But remember this, if you bought some brushes paints and a canvas, could you paint a great picture, any kind of picture,?

I can give you all the info you need, but only you can paint your picture, or not, time alone will tell.

 

i'm mostly referring to learning outside of creating, thats a good way to learn also though at the same time as creating

 

ok yeah, i understand slightly better now.
but still, there's a saying that goes like you can't learn to ride a bike by just reading a book/knowing how to do it.
i think the same applies to many things, doesn't it? you can watch videos and read books about mixing, composing, sound design for 100 years, but if you never touch a knob, play some notes, spill your creativity into your creation, what have you really learned?
besides, this question misses the point that we are all different beings. one learns and functions differently than another, especially when we talk about creativity and artistic resultss

 

If you want a simple answer to a simple question, a good rule of thumb for balance is 20% learning, 80% creating.

Knowledge without being applied is almost useless and will fade away.

Create as much as you can, until you feel frustrated or stuck, then go back to learn something new.

 

Learn to create.

 

I don't learn.

 

I gave up on both. Depression is a bitch.

 

People live more comfortably in the village. They don't divide their time between learning and creating. They never say now is the time to learn and now is the time to create. People just live in the village and do whatever work is needed there. In my opinion, instead of the time divisions that urbanites have created for themselves, we should look at life like ruralists. Divisions create traps in the brain and take away the opportunity to live a normal life.

 

I create when I feel like creating and I learn whenever something interesting is presented to me that I might want to learn, or if I think of something I feel that I need to learn. You don't schedule this stuff, you just go with it.
