Have you updated the content_properties.json file?

 

The Presets may be muted but shouldn't crash Nexus. You could try for a clean installation of Nexus 5.2.3. Move your libraries to a safe location and clean out Nexus including (registry, folders in App data, Documents ) . Reinstall...

Hi everyone

I want to install the latest Nexus, but reading everything I am so confused and want to be sure I do it right the first time (I never installed Nexus on this PC before). Is there a simple step-by-step guide how to do this with Windows 11 online machine?

I want to install the main program VST3 on drive C, but then all the expansion packs and libraries on my larger partitioned SSD. This is where I am confused and concerned about doing it wrong and then being unable to go back and redo my mistakes. Folder structures in different locations and linking everything up inside the plugin. Please can someone help me simplify this process?

I am using Ableton Live 12 for my DAW. I am not a total newbie to cracked software installations or an idiot in general (mostly lol), but I think I have ADHD and definitely serious OCD so I sometimes struggle with overly complicated instructions and especially gathering bits and pieces from multiple sources, it makes my head spin in frustration

The installation of the latest Nexus 5 for first timers is pretty straightforward. As Team VR say "Just install" and Enjoy...
Here are the steps

1. Download the latest release of the plugin v5.2.3 and install it.

2. During the installation process you will be asked where to install the directories [ I,e where your libraries/expansions will need to be placed. In your case create a folder on your SSD or wherever you want and select it.]

3. Then continue with the install.

4. Install factory ROM extension 3 and 4

5. Find and download the gigantic 200GB+ of all Expansion [ which will include the Preset folders, NKS folders and the Soundsource folders.]

6. Cut and paste them in respective directories of your present installation [This you will find in the folder you selected on your SSD for creation of directories during installation process].

7. In that directory you will find a black X icon .exe file . That is the library tool by VR. click on the icon and run the library tool by VR. What it does is it will link that directory to the plugin, so that the plugin is able to find the sounds/expansions during playing.

7. Fire up your DAW. Run the Plugin, give some time to scan the presets and hopefully you are good to go....

One thing to note When you download the gigantic expansions it will contain all the original Factory expansions, the Rom extension and Rom extension 2. If that contains the Rom extension 3 and 4 too you can skip the step No. 4.

BTW If you don't want to install the whole gigantic expansions libraries then you will need to selectively download at least the original Factory Expansions, ROM Extension and Rom extension 2 along with their Preset, NKS and Soundsource folders and follow the the process above.

Afterwards you you can choose to whichever expansions you need to install and then install it....

One more thing sometimes a Nexus expansions uses Soundsource from a different earlier released expansions beside it's own. In that case some of the presets of your current expansions will not likely play and give an error msg that it is missing a Soundsource from another expansions and you need to install it or repair it.

But if you install the Factory and Rom Extensions at least you will rarely face this problem. Hope I covered most of the topics.

Wow, thank you for explaining everything in great detail! Yes, I am most worried about the plugin connecting to the SSD files, but then expansions missing content to make them work properly, because I don't have enough SSD space to spare for the entire 300GB plugin/expansion installation. I think I only want to install the bare bones + a few new expansions released in 2024-2025 and others that come out in the future. Do these newer expansions really use really old files from like Nexus 1? But anyway if a few presets don't work but most do, thats fine too.

Is all of this available at the "sister site"? Thanks so much again!

 

You read my mind! I had this question in my last comment but then you posted so I deleted it

 

If you install the original Factory Expansions, ROM Extension, ROM Extension 2, 3 and 4 I guess you would rarely have presets missing a Soundsource unless they're from a series (eg EDM 1, 2, 3 etc). Sometimes this may happen but won't be much of a problem..

I guess all are available on the sister site. If not, then plenty of avenues on the internet.
BTW I think no new Expansions use files from Nexus 1 dongle era. Only the factory and Rom Extensions will be enough....

They will not be found on the "sister site", as they have been removed due to copyright infringement (DMCA).

@Ichos I just wanted to say thank you again for your help because following your instructions it works! I only had a few minutes to test some presets and while most worked perfect, a few didnt play back any sound so I wonder if I need to place and click that "X" locate library location app for each folder (Nexus 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 content), I only clicked the one inside Nexus 5 Content folder so maybe that is why?

 

Everything is in one folder.

OK so I think I did that part wrong, after downloading everything I had v3 and v4 contents in a separate folder thinking they should be kept that way. I will merge all the folders into the one main v5 content folder, click that X again and see if it works. I will report back about it.

EDIT: Yes, that fixed it and all is good now. Thanks everyone for the help!
