I love Moog and own a lot of their products or have, and absolutely want them to survive... and not sure with tariffs and their reorganization etc how this is gonna float or cost.

I hope it's cool. and affordable. and sadly the second part of that equation in the states is beyond their control ffs....

I got from the video that it is a hybrid synth/printer. This is truly novel.

It's a terrible name but I'll forgive it if it can print my photos and if the ink is not too expensive.

 

Cool video, I had no idea Moog had partnered with Lumon for this release.

 

Instant fail if this toy costs over $800 US... I fear the Moog we loved is long gone and the tariffs will destroy what's left of Bob's old company.

 

The Messenger looks to have wobbly knobs though sounds good with nice routing implementation. I didn't catch the fellow in the above video commenting on the feel of the keys or the synth's overall physical quality, I'll assume for a reason. I'll have to put my hands on it when it is distributed to the public and have a listen for myself.

 

The Moog Messenger costs 849 € and is available in 5-7 weeks! Moog has found a gap in the market, namely making affordable hardware devices for the masses. Unfortunately it only has 37 keys and is mono - it weighs about 5 KG, but has a contemporary USB-C and USB-.midi connection. I think the Messenger will sell well! It also has CV/Gate inputs and outputs.

Hakllo @ArticStorm, lots of plastic, few keys, no wood at all – that's the only way to keep production costs low, and these days you have to sell a lot of units to even make it worthwhile. Thanks to marketing and data collection, we now know pretty precisely how much people are willing to pay. In other words, if it were expensive, the market for customers who would buy it would be too small.

You know desktop synths like Blofeld and Virus TI; they show best how you can sell high volumes with low production costs.

 

Hard to say what to think without actually trying one out and hearing one live. But there's several bits that I like: the sequencer with param locks, filter feedback is always nice, what looks like fully featured MIDI+CV/gate implementation, and looping envs. The bass loss compensation might be great, dunno. Might make for a nice frontend for a (semi)modular setup.

We'll see what's going to be the street price one it comes out and listen to proper sound samples of course.
