Speaking of fireflies one of my all time favorite scenes is from the movie The Lookout(2007),here is the trailer if you haven't seen it already!:

    edit :
& speaking of the Pale Blue Dot :

So today it is April 22 & it is Earth Day.

Earth rotates approximately 0.000694 revolutions per minute (RPM), meaning it completes one full rotation (360 degrees) in about 24 hours. At the equator, this equates to a speed of roughly 1,000 miles per hour. This speed varies depending on latitude, with the speed at the poles being effectively zero.

It works in accordance to Newton's laws of motion.Since the Earth rotates once every 24 hours, it rotates at . 000694 RPM.
Earth's rotation is slowing down though! Our days get longer by about 1.8 milliseconds per century. 600 million years ago, a day was only 21 hours.

We define a day as 86,400 seconds, or 24 hours – the time it takes for Earth to rotate once. However, the Earth doesn’t rotate perfectly uniformly. Usually, the Earth’s rotation is actually slowing down so that the length of the day increases by about 1.8 milliseconds per century, on average. This means that 600 million years ago a day lasted only 21 hours.

The variation in day length is due to several factors, including the tidal effects of the Moon and Sun, core-mantle coupling inside the Earth, and the overall distribution of mass on the planet. Seismic activity, glaciation, the weather, the oceansandthe Earth’s magnetic field may also affect the length of the day.

    But....
In 2020 scientists made a startling discovery. They found that, instead of slowing down, the Earth has started to spin faster. It is now spinning faster than at any time in the last 50 years. In fact, the shortest 28 days on record all occurred during 2020.

As yet, scientists are notentirelysure what is causing this increase in Earth’s rotation rate, but some have suggested it could be due to the melting of glaciers during the 20th Century, or the accumulation of large quantities of water in northern hemisphere reservoirs. However, experts predict that this speeding

up is a temporary effect and the Earth will start slowing down again in the future.

But, for now, should we be worried? Although it will have no effect on our daily lives, there could be serious implications for technology such as GPS satellites, smartphones, computers and communication networks, all of which rely on extremely accurate timing systems. But such problems are ultimately surmountable, perhaps simply by subtracting a leap second rather than adding one.

So no, we shouldn’t be worried – unless the shortening of the day is attributable to human activity.

But....what do I know....the more days I'm blessed to live on this earth, the more I know that I know nothing....just like Socrates .....

@capitan crunch yo that was beautiful cap, my new favorite of yours. the arrangement is so nice, it has like this sense of expansion, its very spacial and like angelic with the backing vocals, makes it feel a little divine and goes really well with this. that was gorgeous dude

@SpyFx ✪ ✓ that definitely sounds like a Netflix show opening theme, just make sure the check they write you is out of this world too :disco: - thanks for sharing your thoughts and again for hosting this month fam, youre doing great

@SmokerNzt welcome to the non-contest, you even did the extra credit song for Olymoon, which i like better of the two; electric pianos are some of my favorite timbres to listen too. i usually dont like ambience but this is the kind i can vibe with, has enough movement and has like this precious feeling, great use of atmosphere

I'm still trying to write lyrics. Don't count me out of the running until the deadline. It could be a good song but we'll see.

@macros mk2 .. Is that a planet in your pocket or are you just happy to see me.

That was great!!! I giggled at about the two minute mark when you nailed the sound of a planet in my mind.

If someone would like to "tune" the first two lines it would certainly help the tune. I could live with everything else as is. Let me know and I'll send you the vocal stem. :mates: I'm totally out of juice and don't have the energy to try again.

The song is about an ageing ragtag group of thieves who give it one last go at a big score. The only ship that they could procure to use on the heist of the mining asteroid is a broken down vessel that on the return journey home to their planet is literally falling apart. The oxygen is running out and the navigation system has ceased functioning...they are flying by the seat of their pants and the possibility of the entire crew suffocating is totally within the realm of possibility. When the first mate dies of injuries sustained in a firefight during the robbery they almost lose all hope of returning home...until at last they see through a porthole The Pale Blue Dot! (Just imagine if they instead of their planet saw a copy of Carl Sagen's book...haha)

The first two lines of the verses have a weird meter of like 14/4 which sets this one apart for me. It just works. I didn't contrive it, it was birthed naturally this way, lol. I also first use an Em chord (you'll hear it) but change it to the major later on for a vibe change.

The sax-ish sound is my obligatory use of a harmonica, albeit for a very simple and short passage before the acoustic guitar lead.

An abattoir means slaughterhouse in French.

    Verses
    Am Bb F Am 2x
    Dm C Em Am
Dm C Em (2nd verse transitions from Em to E maj)

    Chorus
    F C E Am
    F C E
    F C E Am 3x in double time
    F E

    Pale Blue Dot

One last dance, we took the chance
    Bedraggled refugees sailing interstellar seas
We made our getaway like guests who overstayed
Now we're almost out of air, ship's in need of repair

Constant fright broken up by starlight
My first mate up and died, how we cried by her side
She'd live her life in vain if the goal we do not claim
Seems we're running out of time...the end of the line?

The radar has been on the fritz, not sure just where we are
We could be anywhere at all stuck on this abattoir
    Navigator calls..."Come quickly"
    Check out porthole ninety-nine!
As clear as day outside the window
    A pale blue dot
    We are home

Your right. It starts out just like Contest #8 associated with the Armonia painting but shortly veers off after two bars. I like to think of as the concept variation of a theme. I've found that I write songs in blocks of similar chords though with different melodies and structure. I also wrote a two part song not long ago called Triggerfinger/Bill that has that same Am vibe but diverges from there.

Glad that you liked it...and good ear memory.

P.S. I love the nod to Wes Anderson...love his films.

Thanks for listening and the positive feedback. I'll redo the vocals when my energy level is up to it. The vocal in the beginning grates on my nerves and I think it will sound mo' betta when that's done. I just wanted to submit the song before the deadline.

Your standing on the site states that you are "Audiosexual" but in reality you are "Audiovisual". Great track and trippy video to go along with it. I like!

Thank you for listening and for your comment, dear yodadl!

The libraries I used were basically the Albions (I, IV, and Swarm), Sonokinetic Espressivo, Projectsam Symphobia 2, the percussion from Action Strikes, some percussion effects added from old wave files, and the synths were made using Spire.

I assembled the video, selected the sync points, mapped the tempo, created the click track, and started composing based on the phrasing structured according to the video sections.

Regarding the effects, when I extract material from the libraries, I take the time to identify things like 'which notes are most present in this section of randomness?'; 'Is there a detectable major/minor third; Is the resulting chord augmented?' From there, I think about the intervallic content that I overlay onto the harmonic blocks (considering layers so that things make at least minimal sense, even if only to me at first!)

    Thanks again pal!
