    Hi everybody,

I am looking for a hint as to how I would achieve the typical overcompressed, thick, crispy and smooth radio broadcaster vocals.

My best guess so far is EQ + somewhat heavy compression + slight distortion but I bet someone here may know better and perhaps can even hint to a typical chain used in radios.

my searches so far only brought up some weird radio effects for transitions, but that’s not what I am looking for.

thank you so much in advance

    kindest regards!

This tool seems like it’s pretty useful, but a bit overkill. I already own a lot of plugins, therefore I would much prefer using those instead! But thank you for your hint, I will keep it in mind!

This is unfortunately not what I am looking for, but I should have clarified a bit better. I just want to beef up recordings made myself or of my friends. Thank you for your suggestion, though!

What decade & genre radio voice are you looking for? Are you looking for morning show voice, stinger voice/call sign voice, sports, news, NPR? When I think of radio voice, I think of Howard Stern & Rush Limbaugh. But NPR radio voice is the least compressed out of them all.... Just slap the shit outta your transients with an 1176 & sausage it down with a LA2A. If you want that stinger voice lower your pitch by 1-4 semitones & adjust the formant too!!

The right mic and proximity effect. Probably an EV RE20 or Shure SM7... get right up on it, compress and- have a good voice

The proximity effect of your microphone of choice can play an important role in helping to achieve that eq goal naturally. A good tight low end can impart a sense of sonic importance on the sound and as well help the vocalist to better perform. If it's not live to air then you can always tune the low end in post to how it suits you. And as Moogfooger said, that compressor chain consisting of an 1176/LA2A thing is all you really need.
