This is a tested and working configuration in Reaper.
You can ignore europa and massive, as they are just additive carrier sidechains.

Of course the only allowed master send is xils 5000.
Also check on the right side of 5000 the mix pot between bypass and processed voice.

 

I forgot: 5000 level and threshold, they are extremely important, like in any vocoder, real or vst.

 

I see... I'm assuming you didn't use the internal osc as carrier then, right? I am still trying to use the internal oscilator, both in V+ and 201. I haven't installed the 5000, but will give it a try. I wonder why they'd work differently though.

This post is intriguing: the guy uses a different scheme (vocoder fx insert on the modulator track), but at the same time warns not to let it run to the stereo out. Where would the sound come out of then!

 

Yes, I'm starting to think it may be a configuration inside the plugins... But the V+ does have a direct mic fader and even when I turn it all the way down I still get the signal bleed.

 

Though principle is the same, I had to work much harder with V+ (I don't like much 201 for some reason, I learned well 5000 and I still think is one of the best ever).

I managed that as well, but I have to resemble.

I replaced 5000 with V+, and it works with the same configuration, but you have to test with marked sliders.
It's possible to sidechain too, but I have to toy aroud again to see how.

 

You're not gonna believe it. I swapped the voice for a male voice and it kinda worked. For some reason this software is sexist
If I really lower the gain of the first voice, I still get some bleed, but way less. The Arturia is so much easier to program in that respect... Just installed the 5000. You were right, it's way easier to get it going. I think I'm going to have a hard time trying to make it sound good.

The 5000 is one of the better ones. You could also try the Rob Papen RoCoder plugin, and there is also one in the OsTIrus Virus emulation.

I think the reason they all can be "difficult to initially setup" is because of how infrequently you even need one. You forget how you set it up the last time, and maybe even on a different DAW version. The modern exception being the Moog. For the price, you'd be trying to put it on anything and everything.

 

Unfortunately, my friend, the problem was much simpler and has been solved by @DarkV. The setup was right from the get-go, but the VST3 from XILS doesn't work on my version of Reaper, at least.

 

The 3 of them work in VST2 form, even the 201. It's indeed impressive, but I will follow @clone's tip and give the Orange a try as well. And by the way, @orbitbooster was right, too: out of the three, the 5000 is the most unique! Thanks to everyone who helped solve the mystery!

 

Did you try unticking "Inform plugin of channel count changes" in the FX browser for the VST3?

 

Just tried that for a test. Didn't work. I remember you helped me out with this tip for the AJ VPROM once. This is something I never remember checking!

 

You'll see by yourself as you learn to use it, lot of things to discover.
BTW this is Schneider (RIP) comparing Xils 5000 with the original one.

 

The r2r 2017 nfo file about the xils 5000 was a better read than most. The amount of information provided could have served as some kind of tipoff it might timebomb or other. It might even be the first mention of any witches.

 

Tested the Orange, one of the best... But this 5000 is unbeatable. It's very similar to the Arturia in its internal settings (I don't know which analog model the Arturia is based on, but it has even more parameters than the XILS). I wouldn't drop the Arturia, as it sounds fuller and brighter, but the XILS 5000 is so clear and precise, like a needle. The Reason BV-X also seems to be pretty fun!

 

A bit late, I admit, but the thread had reignited my interest in XILS coders, especially trying to get them to work as intended as VST3. Tweaked around them a bit and what I got

So, all three of them (V+. 201 and 5000) work as vocoder in VST3 (even though it's a VSTi lol), it's just that you need to send your vocal\loop\etc track to... a 1st mono channel of vocoder. Example on how to do it on a screenshot and it's applicable to all three plugins. VST2 though... strangely doesn't butcher output and does everything as intended without caring about mono\stereo. LOL

update: aaaand VST3 ones still have original voice on the left which gets out when you try to do something with sides. Nothing what airwindows' RightToMono can't fix but hey, adding another plugin in order to use VST3... meh. Better just stick to VST2 imo

Just stumbled upon something called Vocodine. Unfortunately I won't have time to test it, but it seems fun, if it does what it promises. Thanks everyone who chimed in!
