If you are answering to my post I never said they sound the same, my point was that old VA codding is not that interesting soundwise and somewhat boring, just like the first VSTs that started to appear at the end of 90s. Of course they are interesting in a nostalgic way but I doubt they bring something new on todays table. Most hardware VA sounded weak and sterile even in the 90s how these can be interesting by todays standards. Thats a mystery to me. KVR has already 700 synths in it's base and they are all dsp VA
Must admit I really like the rawness of Nord Lead 1 sound but without emulating the whole inner hardware sound path I'm rather sceptical about the Nord emulation, we'll see if I get the same impression as with hardware while testing it on release. Video posted earlier is meh

i tried this. i don't understand the hype. 99% of the presets sound like sh*t. i waste hours to find useable sounds for production. there are only a handful, not more.

this trashy dinosaur synths are absolutely no match for serum, vital, surge xt etc. in term of good sound.

To me even V-Station is essential, because there is a feel there that I don't want to be without, and it's not available elsewhere. It's all feel, and resonance. We really shouldn't care what other musicians feel, when making decisions. How is that even gonna work? Intellectualizing feel? Dead end babyee.

 

Even the same for Vanguard (1 or 2) which was never (so called) hardware. That's an essential flavor or seasoning you want on tap. Or I do.

 

I just wanted to ask the code gods how things were going on the Novation line. Thank you. It's on my mind every hour of every day.

 

I have installed and listened to almost all virtual software synthesizers, and of course deleted them again, but the V-Station has exactly what others don't have - a unique sound. As you say, you feel really comfortable and the beautiful blue calms the nerves, which is why V-Staion is one of my top 30 best-sounding software synthesizers.

 

Yes indeedy. IMHO, or for me, a good synth could possibly be rated by the numbers of soundsets that were made for it.

This is spooky to me. It makes me want to run and hide with my cats with one of their blanket cloths in a cardboard box. Many options here. Anyway, there was one true "WHAT THE FUCK ARE YOU -- IN A COMA??" moments (talking to myself of course) and that was X-Phrase. I am attempting to try it out today. For that I am grateful. Also please note, I believe there is an x64 of JP6K now. EDIT X-Phrase will inspire me greatly. Just this one win makes my day so thanks again.

OK. Now I know who you are. More or less LOL. I have used your stuff for Largo and Harmor, most memorably. I am sure many many more. Very impressive contributions to the synth world. Extreme. I have to close out now and get down to music, but I just now auditioned your Navira bank. Simply top notch. (That's a great sounding synth too.)

I disagree. You're just used to the "monosodium glutamate" of Serum's complex waveforms and endless preset browsing, but VA synthesizers like the Nord 2 and Novation SuperNova sound much more focused — they sound more musical (though it's hard to explain that if you don't understand what that means). Clavia synths are made for musicians. Serum, on the other hand, is more for "computer/badroom DJs" — even its filters are complete garbage compared to the Nord 2

 

You're comparing something that can't be compared. That's the whole point of all the synths and software synths: they sound different. All synths – hardware and software – are made for musicians and call themselves instruments. Choose one that suits your musical tastes. Serum's filters are actually very high quality.

A Serum is not a Nordlead, and a Nordlead is not a Serum!!! What they're trying to do here is assert their authority and impose their own opinion. A classic (unjustified) devaluation of Serum in order to elevate the North Lead, SuperNova.

To repeat, these are completely different instruments that lead to different (that's called diversity) results.

 

Well you don't contradict to my message, I said that Nord sound is quite interesting but you won't get it in it's fullness from this just DSP emulation, and for the record I dislike Serum tone, not my cup of tea.

 

Are you trying to say that the Nord sound is all in the D/A conversion...? Because it's all DSP, which is being emulated 1:1.

 

It's both, but from this DSP56300 emulation you get one part of it - the raw sound of a chip

 

When I load a track I saved from DAW, Nodal Red VST2-plugin shows the preset name, but there is no sound. If I click the preset open again from the menu, there is sound again on the same preset.

The preset in question is from a third-party soundpack.


I'm on Win11, ableton12.

It's pity, the plugin has a really good sound and good presets, but due to the "no sound after reloading a track"-problem I don't use it.
