Hey guys, not a music related topic I know, but I figured some of you clever people could help me out anyways. ComedyCentral decided to Geoblock streaming from my country a cpl of months ago and it annoys me like hell that I no longer can watch Jon Stewart's extended interviews on the Daily Show (because only the edited ~22min version is available on torrent/streaming etc. sites.) So I'm looking for a preferably free VPN with relatively fast US servers that allows streaming video.
Does such a thing exist? otherwise what would be the most economic option for a payed service?

Try Zenmate. It´s a browser addon for chrome/chromium/SRWare Iron and it is completely free (at the moment).

Yes, Zenmate is perfect.
But "Hide All IP" is faster.

I use both, alternately.
For Chrome - Zenmate, for Opera - Hide All IP.

These two are simply the best

I use Cyber Ghost for windows. But nice to see a Chrome/Chromium and Opera addon Free VPN. Looks like I found a simple Linux VPN solution,Mac too!

All good... but does anybody know who's running these wonderful services and how much of the user's activity they log? With all this privacy invasion craze these days, I'm a bit afraid I'll be watched even more closely through a proxy compared to the regular connection...

Good point. Be very careful by VPN. Government offer often free VPN to track Users Activity.

Never Use untrusted VPN and Proxy for Privat Information Transfer or Conversations.

 

I just want to put this out there. It doesn't matter if you're on a proxy or not, if you are on the world wide web at any moment in time, everything you do is being recorded by somebody. Whether by governments (The US, Great Britain, Russia, China and various others), advertising/metadata agencies or an internet archive, it's being tracked, stored and recorded; period. Every single phone call, text, and click on a web browser is there, stored in computers the size of football fields.

The point I'm trying to make though is that there is no use being paranoid about being tracked, because it will get you no where. That's not to say it's wrong to be vocal about how wrong it is to be spied on as we are, because that's a political right. But to be paranoid about the fact is just silly, because not only is it happening right now, it's been happening for years right under our noses, and it's only been recently that the entire scope of the massive collection of data has been out in the open thanks to Edward Snowden. But before him, there were plenty of other whistle blowers saying the same exact stuff, it's just no one was listening. In the United States, the NSA has been spying on a massive scale since before the internet. The internet has just made it easier.

With that said, to be tracked for pirating software, or watching TV unavailable in your country is a minor thing. There's nothing really to be paranoid about. You aren't being "watched" specifically, just recorded like everyone else. They go for bigger targets than your average downloader, it's scare tactics. Spread of information can't be stopped, just slowed down.

But, if you're involved in world wide drug trade (even at a small scale), money laundering/tax evasion, illegal arms trading or involved in the release of state secrets, that is the time to be paranoid and very careful. That's what they are looking for in all this data, but I would hope a person knows what he's getting into before using the 'regular' internet, cell phones or anything connected to the grid to be doing any of this in the first place.

So, we may conclude free VPN is not exactly a solution for minimizing privacy invasion, except maybe watching TV channels unavailable in your country. Never log in to mail/bank/useful sites personal accounts from such places as it may pose a risk.
However, paid VPN services seem to be a different story. Check this article out (especially if you're into warez and shit like this). It was here before, but it doesn't hurt a repost ;)
