I read on several sources that mastering room need to be larger than mixing room. They recommend a larger room than a mixing room to master in

    I cannot understand this

Why not also mix in the mastering room then?

Because it sounds nicer that way. Everything has to be in order in the hifi world of nonsense.

Mastering rooms need to be larger than mixing rooms for several reasons:

Better bass reproduction: Larger rooms allow for more consistent reproduction of low frequencies. Bob Katz recommends a length of at least 7-10 meters to better reproduce long wavelengths and achieve a more even distribution of the lower octaves.

Reduction of room resonances: A larger room helps minimize distracting room resonances, which is crucial for accurately assessing the sound during mastering.

Optimal listening position: More space allows for better positioning of the monitors and listening position, which is essential for accurate mastering.

Specialized acoustics: Mastering rooms often have specially optimized acoustics that differ from mixing rooms, allowing for the perception of the finest nuances in the sound.

Agreed, of course. Probably budget. And if you have the choice in a studio, better a big live room (for the same reasons as a mastering studio, the lows and accoustics), and a smaller mixing room, then the other way round. Recording quality can,t be fixed afterwards. A mix can to some extent be fixed in the mix eh no during mastering lol

Because if you mix in the mastering room you need a larger room to master it, that's why larger studios do mastering in a stadium or arena.

Typically, there's only one room with a large mixing console, PC, and monitors, where mixing and mastering takes place.
If you're recording a band, you have a separate room, often separated by a glass pane.

What you read there is nonsense.

What rooms are there in a recording studio?

A traditional recording studio always has the following rooms:
    - Studio (recording room)
    - Control room

The term “recording studio” is actually misleading: in the studio, i.e. the recording room, the musicians work on their instruments, in the control room sound engineers work on mixing consoles and other audio equipment.

The separation of recording room and control room is understandable: The sound engineer wants to be able to judge what the microphones in the recording room are picking up via his loudspeakers.
The sound that reaches his ears directly from the instruments or amplifiers would only disturb him.

For visual contact with the musicians, there is often a screen between the control room and the recording room. The path between the two rooms is also often separated by a double door (or a small space called a “sound lock”) so that as little direct sound as possible can pass from one room to the other.

A recording room is acoustically designed so that the sound there matches the instruments as well as possible. Often the acoustics are also variable, in the simplest case with movable walls (“gobos”). In the control room, on the other hand, the acoustics are optimized to create the most balanced, natural sound possible at the sound engineer's workstation. Very rare in the professional sector are “one-room designs”, where everything takes place in one room, as in a rehearsal room.

Mastering rooms are larger by definition. The master bedroom in a house is larger than the guest bedroom which can be interpolated as the mixing room. This general rule is heartily broken as a studio apartment is only a single room whereas a recording studio can be a conglomeration of many, ie, control room, machine room, isolation booth, etcetera. In this modern world nothing any longer makes any sense! I pine for the good old days when we would bang rocks together and chant hopeful prayers at the moon.

Yep. Most producers mix in their bedroom, but master in their parents' bedroom.
