Are there any videos or sites that explain chord progressions by genre?
I've searched and can't seem to find anything good...

All you have to do is download the correct whatever "genre engine" plugin. It always gives you the correct chords for the genre; otherwise, you could end up with house chords in a techno track.

it doesn't quite work like that but in terms of what to look for/research if you study some basic jazz theory and wrap your head around modes/chords and navigating the piano roll the rest will fall into place pretty naturally

This guy, signals music studios, kind of answers music theory questions in the way you're asking it. He hasn't got a Genre by Genre breakdown of the most common scales and chord progressions in each genre or anything but he does explain different ones in a basic way and shows where they're applicable. Definitely helpful.

    I see, thanks. :)
Music theory is an hindsight study...

I want to say one thing to you and the emoji people (@mrpsanter, @Shiori Oishi, @Baxter).
I have already escaped down from the rabbit hole.
But here I am. Why? It's to collect paper. Because I am ready for action. But since that can be done at any time, I came to the conclusion that until then, I should stay here and have a nice conversation with the members (other than them).
I was going to tell the people involved in that later, but since you seem to be their teammate, why don't you tell them?
I would be exhausting to contact everyone involved.
This might not be clear to people who haven't been exposed to non-English speaking books.

    Thanks! :like:

There are many, but I guess House now....

Thank you. Your input reminded me of something.
There was once a program where a jazz musician visited his alma mater, a music college, to give a class.
The students were current students at the college, and the jazz musician asked them to sit down at the piano and improvise on whatever they wanted, but they could not improvise at all, even though they had studied at the college for years.
After all, jazz is great.... :blues:

The best way to learn chord progressions is by learning basic music theory. There's no way around it. It's easier than most people think unless you're lazy.

If you want to follow genre tropes, just googling/asking AI for those tropes is probably way faster than asking here for a bird's eye overview of all genres.

Hook Theory has a couple browsable databases you might be interested in.

    https://www.hooktheory.com/theorytab/common-chord-progressions
    https://www.hooktheory.com/chordProgressionNode

    (...)

Wikipedia has an overview of the most common progressions: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_chord_progressions - links to the individual pages usually explain the genres/forms commonly associated with those.

I know music theory, but I tend to use Scaler quite a bit for new ideas.

I think the best way to progress on the Push is by using a scale-independent matrix with fixed patterns, as everything is there in every inversion, whether open or closed.

You had to jinx it didn't you

I am NOT buying into this. It's like people who say things like "I don't want jazz chords". There is no such thing as a fricking jazz chord, a classical chord, or an Indie chord, or a rock chord, it's just a fricking chord not a naming convention war. Whether someone calls a chord C13#11 or a D over a C7 or polychordal or whatever satisfies an understanding, it's still, just a chord and a progression is just a series of chords that went in a direction from the choices made by the composer.
Some genres are consistent and some are not. Most of the time, the way something is executed, its intensity or lack of, the incorporation of sounds and feel and it's rhythmic constructs, and other things define the genre. In many cases, it can be as simple as the sociological phase at that point in time including dress, drug cultures and again, too much to list.

This is the kind of opinionated debate where everyone can simultaneously win and lose at the same time.

    :wtf:

You have successfully managed in one paragraph to attempt to invalidate centuries of the mathematics and physics involved in music, along with Bach, Mozart and every composer from every style and genre in at least a thousand years.
THAT is the big picture implication in what you just said. :deep_facepalm::facepalm:
